Imagem do Dia # Image of the Day

# Why Worship A God Who Allows A Child To Be Raped?

As palavras ferem profundamente.

Question: Why worship a God who allows a child to be raped?

Answer: It isn’t God's fault that people choose to grab the good that He has created and corrupt it. It isn’t His fault that fathers molest their daughters or mothers verbally abuse their sons.
We humans are pretty much free to do what we want.
How should we feel about the fact that God doesn’t prevent others from harming us?
How should we feel about the fact that God doesn’t prevent us from doing harm to others?
We could wish that God established a set of limits, beyond which people would be punished. One could suggest that God should kill any man who molested a child.
Well, and what about the producers of child pornography that may have helped to motivate the man to molest a child? It would be fair if God killed them too?
Okay, and what should God do, let us say, to people who verbally abusive?
Words hurt deeply. If you ask a room full of advisors what causes more damage to people, if verbal or sexual abuse, I bet most of them will say that verbal abuse carries greater weight. There is certainly much more verbal abuse being practiced.
Must God close our mouths when we're about to say something harmful?
Suppose the world worked that way. How would it be?
Would humans walk around boiling with resentment, because they would never be allowed to say what they really think? Would they deeply know that other people don’t really care about them, just because they only say good things to avoid being killed by the vengeful lightning of God? Would the world be even lonelier than it already is?
It seems quite clear that we can do what we choose to do. And how can we be angry at God for letting us do this?
However, God has not been silent. God tells us what is the best way to live our lives.
Isn’t true that if everyone followed the 10 Commandments, no child would ever be raped or molested?
Isn’t true that if everyone followed the 10 commandments, nothing would ever be stolen or the spouse betrayed and someone’s son or daughter murdered?
Instead of controlling us, God gives us freedom. God doesn’t interfere with the choices of anyone. Instead, He assures us that all will one day answer for what they did and that justice will be applied. Judging will be based on the guidelines given.
The problem is, to be told how to live well is insufficient. Even God says that.
Giving us an owner's manual, as the Bible isn’t enough. Telling a child abuser that molesting children is wrong, isn’t new to him. God says we need something deeper. Internal guidance, yes. But even more than that. Power inside to want to do what is right. This is what God can provide.

Here is what God says that can be true for us, if we choose to trust in God: “And if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of His Spirit who lives in you.” (Romans 8:11)

God offers to live in us. Jesus said: “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (John 10:10 - 2nd part). Not lives free of problems. But the life that has an internal motivation to do what is right and to please God, whom we now know. God offers us a relationship with Him which alone brings peace and stability to our lives.

God is asking us to spend our life with Him. To know Him. To be transformed by an awareness of His love for us. And as a valued friend, to be advised and influenced by Him.

Orar Significa # Praying Means

A experiência resulta numa alegria calma e simples. ~ Habacuque 3:2

Praying means to stop expecting from God that same small-mindedness which you discover in yourself. To pray is to walk in the full light of God, and to say simply, without holding back: "I am a man and You are God." At that moment, conversion occurs, the restoration of the true relationship. This conversion brings with it the relaxation which lets you breathe again and puts you at rest in the embrace of a forgiving God. The experience results in a calm and simple joy. ~ Habakkuk 3:2
