Zacarias: Um Exemplo de Fé # Zechariah: A Faith Example

Zacarias não é um nome que é mencionado muitas vezes quando se falam dos homens fiéis da Bíblia. Ele só é mencionado no Evangelho de Lucas, porque é o pai do grande João Baptista, o percursor do Messias, Jesus. Apesar de não haver livros escritos sobre ele ou qualquer outro menção na Bíblia, ele é alguém para quem se pode olhar como um exemplo de fidelidade.

Zacarias e a sua esposa Isabel eram velhos em idade e não tinham filhos (Lucas 1:7). Naquele dia, não ter filhos normalmente trazia tristeza para a família e vergonha daqueles à sua volta (Lucas 1:25). Os de fora costumavam pensar que havia pecado na vida do casal, e que não ter filhos era o meio pelo qual Deus os punia. Porém, durante tudo isto, Zacarias optou por permanecer fiel a Deus no seu trabalho como sacerdote e nas suas orações para ter uma criança sua.

Zacarias poderia facilmente ter parado de orar, tornar-se amargo e parar de trabalhar para o Deus que não lhe estava a dar um filho. No entanto, isto não é como termina a história de Zacarias. Sabemos que Deus de facto respondeu às suas orações e provou-Se fiel, abençoando-o com um filho, João Baptista. Podemos ser encorajados de que Deus ouve as nossas orações e responde no Seu tempo para dar uma maior bênção do que poderíamos ter imaginado.

Zechariah is not a name that is mentioned often when faithful men of the Bible are spoken of. He is only mentioned in the Gospel of Luke because he is the father of the great John the Baptist, the fore runner of the Messiah, Jesus. While there aren’t books written about him or any other mentions in the Bible, he is someone we can look to as an example of faithfulness.

Zechariah and his wife Elizabeth were old in age and did not have children (Luke 1:7). In that day, being childless usually brought sorrow to the family and shame from those around them (Luke 1:25). Outsiders would often think that there was sin in the lives of the couple, and that childlessness is the means by which God is punishing them. During all of this though, Zechariah chose to remain faithful to God in his work as a priest and in his prayers for a child of his own.

Zechariah could have easily stopped praying, became bitter, and stopped working for the God who was not providing a child for him. However, this is not how Zechariah’s story ends. We know that God did in fact answer his prayers and proved Himself faithful by blessing him with a son, John the Baptist. We can be encouraged that God hears our prayers and answers them in His timing for a greater blessing than we could have ever imagined.

És Extraordinário # You Are Extraordinary

Sente-se vulgar? Enquanto passa o seu dia, a correr para o supermercado, levando as crianças ao treino de futebol, empilhando a roupa suja e todas as outras coisas divertidas, parece toda esta actividade importante? Ou sente-se perdido na confusão?

Eu encontrava-me a conduzir para a igreja numa manhã depois de um grande nevão e olhei para um campo. O sol estava a bater na neve fazendo-o brilhar como diamantes. As árvores tinham neve sobre elas apenas o suficiente para tirar o fôlego. E o céu estava a clarear mostrando uma bonita, cor azul. Como poderia eu comparar-me a isto? A natureza é tão linda, tão impressionante e aqui estou eu a conduzir às voltas de uma forma tão vulgar quanto isto pode ser.

Efésios 2:10 diz que somos a obra de Deus, e Efésios 5:1 chama-nos filhos amados. O Criador do Universo vê-me como algo especial e algo a ser valorizado. Certamente não vulgar, não chato, não para Ele. Ele também não vê a minha vida assim. Deus deu-me uma família para cuidar, um trabalho onde usar as minhas habilidades, pessoas com quem posso me relacionar e muito mais. Ele quer que eu brilhe em minha vida assim como a neve brilha ao sol.

Não é só que Deus me ama porque sou a Sua criação. Há também uma grande luz que brilha através de mim, que é a luz de Jesus. Depois de aceitar Jesus Cristo no meu coração, eu sou uma nova criação (2 Coríntios 5:17). Nós não somos vulgares, somos extraordinários. Não existimos apenas para ocupar espaço e gastar gasolina, mas foi-nos dado habilidades, e paixões, e pessoas com quem interagir numa base diária. Não há ninguém como nós. Não há mais ninguém que possa fazer o que Deus nos pediu para fazer.

Às vezes ficamos perdidos na confusão da vida diária. Podemos ver-nos assim com pouco valor. Mas Deus vê muito mais. Deus vê-nos como especiais. Ele tem coisas especiais para fazermos hoje e todos os dias.

Do you feel ordinary? As you go about your day, running to the grocery store, driving kids to soccer practice, piling laundry and all those other fun things, does all that activity seem important? Or do you feel lost in the shuffle?

I was driving to church one morning after a big snow and looked across a field. The sun was hitting the snow making it glisten like diamonds. The trees had just enough snow on them to be breathtaking. And the sky was clearing to show a beautiful, blue color. How could I compare to that? Nature is so beautiful, so breathtaking, and here I am driving around as ordinary as can be.

Ephesians 2:10 says that we are God’s handiwork, and Ephesians 5:1 calls us dearly loved children. The Maker of the Universe sees me as something special and something to be cherished. Certainly not ordinary, not boring, not to Him. Nor does He see my life like that. God has given me a family to care for, a job to use my skills, people to connect with, and so much more. He wants me to shine in my life just like the snow shines in the sun.

It’s not just that God loves me because I am His creation. There is also a great light shining through me which is the light of Jesus. After accepting Jesus Christ into my heart, I am a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17). We are not ordinary, we’re extraordinary. We don’t just exist to take up space and use up gas, but we have been given skills, and passions, and people with whom to interact with on a daily basis. There is no one else like us. There is no one else who can do what God has asked us to do.

Sometimes we get lost in the daily shuffle of life. We just might see ourselves as not so much. But God sees so much more. God sees us as special. He has special things for us to do today and every day.
