Dado À Ira # Given To Anger
A maioria de nós estamos cientes de que "as más companhias corrompem os bons costumes" (I Coríntios 15:33) e nos tornamos com quem estamos constantemente. Quando nos deparamos com versos como estes nas Escrituras, os rostos de pessoas surgem através dos olhos da nossa mente. Um nome aparece na nossa cabeça, ou lembramos e reproduzimos uma situação onde fomos injustiçados. No entanto, o rosto que raramente vem à nossa mente é o nosso! É um homem ou uma mulher "dado à ira"? Quando teve um dia mau no escritório, é o seu cônjuge ou filhos que partilham o sofrimento do dia porque lhes atira isso em cima?
Não se deixe enganar, ser "dado à ira" é, sem dúvida, uma armadilha, mas também estar constantemente a ver os outros como os que precisam de ser tratados ou transformados. Não seja hipócrita, julgue-se pelo mesmo padrão com o qual julga os outros. É fácil colocar a culpa nos outros, quando pode ser o único com o pavio curto. Não seja conhecido como outro Cristão zangado ao mundo à sua volta.
Certifique-se de examinar a sua vida tanto quanto examina a dos outros.

Most of us are well aware that "bad company corrupts good morals" (I Corinthians 15:33) and we become who we are consistently with. When we come across verses such as these in Scripture, people’s faces flash through our mind’s eye. A name pops into our head, or we recall and replay a situation where we were wronged. However, the person’s face that rarely comes to mind is our own! Are you that man or woman "given to anger"? When you’ve had a bad day at the office, is it your spouse or kids who share in the day’s suffering because you lash out at them?
Don’t be fooled, being "given to anger" is undoubtedly a snare, but so too is constantly seeing others as the ones who need the fixing or the change. Don’t be a hypocrite, judge yourself by the same standard with which you judge others. It is easy to put the blame on others, when you might be the one with the short fuse. Don’t be known as another angry Christian to the world around you.
Be sure to examine your life as much as you do others.

Sempre que leio este verso, lembro-me de algumas coisas: em primeiro lugar, apesar de Tiago estar a escrever para "Judeus dispersos" (v-1), é preciso lembrar-nos que eles são Cristãos que foram comprados do Judaísmo para o Cristianismo, por isso estas verdades são aplicáveis a todos nós que cremos. Em segundo lugar, ele exorta-nos a contar os problemas que passamos ao viver esta vida com alegria, o que leva a uma rotação diferente quando se está no meio de um problema. E em terceiro lugar, quase que parece que ele introduz silenciosamente a palavra "quando", enquanto fala sobre esses "diversos" ou muitos tipos de tentações ou provas.
Se fomos chamados a servir Jesus, parte deste serviço vai incluir um tempo de testes/provas. Imagine formar um aluno em mergulho, mas toda a sua experiência foi confinado à sua piscina. Seria difícil partilhar o seu conhecimento sobre o que fazer quando um problema ocorre no revolto oceano se nunca experimentou o mergulho no oceano.
Deus ensina-nos a Sua verdade e sabedoria através da Sua Palavra. Parte do Seu processo de ensino também inclui a aplicação desta mesma verdade nas nossas vidas de uma forma que nunca será esquecido. Muitas vezes, isso vai vir na forma de algum tipo de teste ou uma prova que o Senhor permite ou envia.
Encontra-se no meio de algo que sabe que não é relacionado com pecado e clamou ao Senhor por socorro? BOM, porque se Ele é a fonte do seu problema, só Ele pode trazer esse alívio. "Sabendo que a prova da vossa fé opera a paciência". continua o versículo 3 a dizer, o que nos ajuda a saber que Deus está a tentar ensinar-nos algo no meio de uma prova, uma lição que de outra forma não poderíamos aprender para além de onde Ele nos tem, e uma lição aprendida durante uma prova, é uma lição bem aprendida (as provações de Jó ensina-nos isso).

"My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into diverse temptations." ~ James 1:2
Every time time I read this verse, I am reminded of a few things: first, that even though James is writing to "scattered Jews" (v-1), we need to remember that they are Christians who have been bought from Judaism and into Christianity, so these truths are applicable to all we who believe. Secondly, he exhorts us to count the issues we go through while living this life with joy, which takes on a different spin when knee deep in the midst of an issue. And thirdly, it almost seems that he sneaks in the word "when" as he talks about these "diverse" or many kinds temptations or trails.
If we have been called to serve Jesus, part of that serving is going to include a time of testing/trials. Imagine training a student to scuba dive, but all of your experience has been confined to your swimming pool. It would be hard to share your wisdom on what to do when trouble occurs in the rough ocean if you have never experienced scuba diving in the ocean.
God teaches us His truth and wisdom through His Word. Part of His teaching process also includes applying that very same truth to our lives in a way that it will never be forgotten. Many times this will come in the form of a testing or a trial of some sort that the Lord allows or sends.
Are you finding yourself in the middle of something that you know is not sin related and you have been crying out to the Lord for relief? GOOD, because if He is the source of your issue, then only He can bring that relief. "Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience." verse 3 goes on to say, which helps us to know that God is trying to teach us something in the midst of a trail, a lesson that we otherwise couldn’t learn apart from where He has us, and a lesson learned in a trial, is a lesson learned well (the trials of Job teaches us that).
