Lembre-se Das Suas Raízes # Remember Your Roots

Já ouviu falar de uma pessoa descrita como alguém que "esqueceu-se de onde veio" ou tinha "esquecido as suas raízes"? Este tipo de pessoa não costuma dar crédito àquelas que na sua vida a ajudaram a estar onde se encontram actualmente. Talvez vieram de uma pequena cidade agrícola e agora vivem na grande cidade e não querem sujar as mãos. Podem estar a negligenciar um amigo ou mentor que os ajudou, e agem como se conseguiram passar a vida sozinhos. Isto não acontece apenas fora da igreja, mas dentro da igreja também.

Paulo estava a lidar com a igreja na Galácia que se estava a esquecer de onde tinham vindo. Eles estavam a começar a seguir os mestres Judeus que estavam a ensinar que os Cristãos tinham que obedecer à Lei de Moisés e observar as festas religiosas, assim como os Israelitas fizeram. Eles tinham esquecido que foram salvos pela fé somente pela graça de Deus (Efésios 2:8).

Devemos sempre lembrar-nos de onde viemos, como seguidores de Jesus Cristo e nunca nos afastar das nossas raízes. A graça de Deus é a essência da nossa caminhada com Jesus. Não podemos fazer nada por conta própria para ganhar o Seu favor. Ao passar dos anos em colocar a nossa fé em Jesus, temos a tendência de esquecer isto e focar nas nossas acções, em vez da obra de Jesus. Que não seja assim consigo.

Have you ever heard a person described as someone who "forgot where they came from" or had "forgotten their roots"? This type of person usually doesn’t give credit to those in their life who aided in getting them to where they presently are. Maybe they came from a small farming town and now live in the big city and don’t want to get their hands dirty. They may be neglecting a friend or mentor who poured into them, and acting as if they made it through life alone. This doesn’t just happen outside the church, but inside the church as well.

Paul was dealing with the church in Galatia that was forgetting where they had come from. They were starting to follow the Jewish teachers who were teaching that Christians had to obey the Law of Moses and observe religious festivals just like the Israelites did. They had forgotten that they were saved by faith alone through God’s grace (Ephesians 2:8).

We must always remember where we came from as followers of Jesus Christ and never stray from our roots. The grace of God is the essence of our walk with Jesus. We can do nothing on our own to earn His favor. As years of putting our faith in Jesus alone go by, we tend to forget this and focus on our deeds instead of the work of Jesus. Let it not be so with you.
