Judeus praticantes oram três vezes ao dia e os Muçulmanos cinco. Não é assim com o Cristianismo. Em vez de simplesmente aderir a uma lista de regras, requisitos ou pilares, o foco principal do Cristianismo é um relacionamento com Deus. E assim como qualquer relacionamento, isto requer tempo. Jesus deu o exemplo do tempo passado com Deus ao reservar regularmente tempo para orar.
Agora, Jesus é Deus, então porquê Deus (Jesus) oraria a Deus (o Pai)? Não consigo explicar completamente o mistério dos três num relacionamento entre Deus o Pai, Deus o Filho e Deus o Espírito Santo, mas posso te dizer que o objectivo final de Jesus ao longo do Seu ministério na terra foi andar 100% de acordo com a vontade do Seu Pai. Isto significava ficar perto do Seu Pai e priorizar o Seu tempo com Deus (o Pai) sobre tudo o resto. Antes do trabalho, ministério, amigos e até família, o Seu Pai veio sempre em primeiro lugar.
O mesmo vale para os seguidores de Jesus. Se Jesus priorizou o tempo com o Seu Pai, então nós também o deveríamos. O nosso supremo desejo na vida deve ser estar perto do nosso Pai Celestial por meio da oração e da leitura da Sua Palavra, a fim de cumprir a Sua vontade. É dizer: "Não importa qual seja a minha agenda ou as pressões que estou a enfrentar, o meu objectivo número um na vida é o meu relacionamento com Deus. Tudo o resto vem em segundo lugar."
Quando escolhemos colocar Deus em primeiro lugar, queremos passar tempo com Ele. Não nos preocuparemos em verificar uma lista de regras, mas em experimentar um relacionamento com o Único e Verdadeiro Deus passando tempo a sós com Ele como Jesus fez. Este é um relacionamento que vale a pena perseguir!

Practicing Jews pray three times a day and Muslims five. Not so with Christianity. Rather than simply adhering to a list of rules, requirements or pillars, Christianity’s primary focus is on a relationship with God. And just like any relationship, this requires time. Jesus modeled spending time with God by regularly setting aside time to pray.
Now, Jesus is God, so why would God (Jesus) pray to God (the Father)? I can’t fully explain the mystery of the three in one relationship between God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, but I can tell you that Jesus’ ultimate goal throughout His ministry on earth was walking 100% in His Father’s will. This meant staying close to His Father and prioritizing His time with God (the Father) over everything else. Before work, ministry, friends and even family, His Father always came first.
The same holds true for followers of Jesus. If Jesus prioritized time with His Father, then so should we. Our ultimate desire in life should be staying close to our Heavenly Father through prayer and reading His Word in order to fulfill His will. It’s about saying, "No matter what my schedule looks like or what pressures I’m facing, my number one purpose in life is my relationship with God. Everything else comes second."
When we choose to put God first, we want to spend time with Him. We won’t worry about checking off a list of rules, but rather experiencing a relationship with the One True God by spending time alone with Him like Jesus did. That’s a relationship worth pursuing!

Um ídolo é qualquer coisa nas nossas vidas que vem antes de Deus. Isto pode ser uma pessoa ou uma coisa, um emprego ou carreira, mas muitas vezes é dinheiro. Tim Keller descreve a obsessão da nossa cultura com o dinheiro como um "ídolo à superfície". O que é que ele quer dizer? As pessoas podem tornar-se escravas do dinheiro quando a sua verdadeira preocupação é encontrar segurança. Constroem um grande muro de protecção à volta das suas vidas com contas bancárias e investimentos na esperança de se protegerem de todos os perigos deste mundo, mas no final esta busca desesperada por segurança pode levar a um coração de ganância e mesquinhez.
Para outros, o dinheiro é o ídolo à superfície para a aceitação, onde usam dinheiro e riqueza para impressionar os outros, de forma a buscar desesperadamente aprovação. A obsessão pelo dinheiro também pode esconder um desejo mais profundo de poder e influência.
Dá uma olhada em como tu vês o dinheiro. Enquadras-te numa destas categorias? Jesus sabia que seríamos tentados a colocar o dinheiro à frente de Deus. É por isso que é tão importante lembrar-nos que tudo o que temos vem de Deus. Somos simplesmente mordomos, gerentes, de tudo o que Ele nos confiou.
Então, faz a ti mesmo a seguinte pergunta: Possuis dinheiro ou ele possui-te a ti? A maneira mais fácil de ter a certeza de que tens um relacionamento saudável com o dinheiro é distribuí-lo. A Bíblia ensina que o dízimo é dar 10% do que ganhamos para Deus, do nosso amor por Ele. Isto demonstra a nossa fé e gratidão por tudo o que temos. Isto coloca Deus em primeiro lugar. Então, como está a tua relação com o dinheiro? Possuis dinheiro ou ele possui-te a ti? Garanto-te que a tua conta bancária dar-te-á a resposta. Onde gastas o teu dinheiro não mente. Ele grita a resposta à pergunta: O teu dinheiro possui-te ou o teu dinheiro revela que Deus é o teu dono? O que é que ele diz?

An idol is anything in our lives that comes before God. This can be a person or a thing, a job or career, but very often it’s money. Tim Keller describes our culture’s obsession with money as a "surface idol". What does he mean? People can become enslaved to money when their real concern is finding security. They build a big wall of protection around their life with bank accounts and investments in hopes of protecting themselves from all the dangers of this world, yet ultimately this desperate search for security can lead to a heart of greed and stinginess.
For others, money is the surface idol for acceptance, using money and wealth to impress others, desperately seeking approval. Obsession with money can also hide a deeper desire for power and influence.
Take a look at how you view money. Do you fall into one of these categories? Jesus knew that we would be tempted to put money before God. That’s why it’s so important to remember that all we have comes from God. We’re simply a steward, a manager, of all that He’s entrusted.
So, ask yourself this question: Do you own money or does it own you? The easiest way to be sure that you have a healthy relationship with money is to give it away. The Bible teaches that tithing is giving 10% of what we earn to God, out of our love for Him. It demonstrates our faith and gratitude for all that we have. It puts God first. So how is your relationship with money? Do you own money or does it own you? I assure you that your bank account will provide the answer. Where you spend your money doesn’t lie. It screams the answer to the question: Does your money own you or does your money reveal that God owns you? What does it say?
