William Matthews - Glory To Glory ... ♪♫♪♫♪♫♪♫

Created from dust
You came and You lived among us
Taken on our frame, You walked in our pain
And now You're taking us higher

You stepped into time
You laid down Your life to save us
You took on our shame
On the cross it was laid
And now You're taking us higher

We go from glory to glory to glory
We'll never be the same, never be the same
We go from glory to glory to glory
We're forever changed, forever changed

You called Your friend
Brought into Your endless kingdom
By the blood I was made, no longer a slave
And now You're taking us higher

We go from glory to glory to glory
We'll never be the same, never be the same
We go from glory to glory to glory
We're forever changed, forever changed

Until we reach the day
Love conquers everything
We'll cry an anthem singing
Holy, holy
And when we see that day
We're standing face to face
We'll shout an anthem singing
Holy, holy

You took on the grave
So not even death can shake us
See the victor has won
And Heaven has come
Now You're taking us higher
Now You're taking us higher

We go from glory to glory to glory
We'll never be the same, never be the same
You take us higher and higher and higher
We're forever changed, forever changed [x2]

Eu e Deus # Me and God

Eu: Prometes que não vais ficar zangado?
DEUS: Prometo.
Eu (frustrado): Porque é que deixaste tanta coisa me acontecer hoje?
DEUS: O que queres dizer com isso?
Eu: Bem, eu acordei tarde.
DEUS: Sim.
Eu (baixinho): Estou a compreender Deus.
Eu: Desculpa-me Deus.

GOD: All right
Me (loudly): And to top it all off, when I got home, I just wanted to soak my feet in my foot massager and relax, but it wouldn't work. Nothing went right today! Why did you do that?
GOD: Well let me see... the death angel was at your bed this morning and I had to send one of the other angels to battle him for your life. I let you sleep through that.
Me (humbled): Oh...
GOD: I didn't let your car start because there was a drunk driver on your route that might have hit you if you were on the road.

Me (embarrassed): Oh...
GOD: Your phone went dead because the person that was calling was going to give a false witness about what you said on that call, I didn't even let you talk to them so you would be covered.
Me (softly): I see God.
GOD: Oh and that foot massager, it had a short that was going to throw out all of the power in your house tonight. I didn't think you wanted to be in the dark.
Me: I'm sorry God.
GOD: Don't be sorry, just learn to trust me... in all things, the good and the bad.
Me: I will trust You God.
GOD: And don't doubt that My plan for your day is always better than your plan.
Me: I won't God. And let me just tell You God, thank You for everything today.
GOD: You're welcome child. It was just another day being your God and I love looking after my children.

Transgressão Como Idolatria # Transgression As Idolatry

 #

Today, let’s do something a little different, and outline, unpack, and apply Proverbs 28:2.

When a land transgresses, ...

What is transgression? Transgression is sin, or leaving the bounds of right relationship with God. It is idolatry because it flows from our hearts being satisfied with things far below God (Psalm 16:11).

... it has many rulers, ...

What’s wrong with many rulers? When we transgress the bounds of our devotion and relationship with God, we submit to the rule of the false gods (idols) that we pursue. However, rather than serving a God who is One (Deuteronomy 6:4-6) and unchanging, we are ruled by many gods unified in chaos and destruction. Their rule will always result in strife, enmity, and the degradation of relationships.

What’s so bad about idolatry? Transgression is idolatry and as we can see, idolatry is tyranny or being ruled by a really, really bad king(s). This is because it puts us under the strangle hold of spiritual oppression which keeps us locked up in chains, instead of free as Jesus wants us (John 8:32).

... but with a man of understanding and knowledge, its stability will long continue.

What does it look like to have understanding and knowledge? The picture of transgression is contrasted with the man (or people) of understanding and knowledge. The combination of the two can and should be understood as wisdom; which begins with the fear of the One true God (Proverbs 1:7; 9:10), and the pursuit of Him alone.

"... e o Meu povo assim o deseja"

~ Jeremias 5:26-31

Tell me this doesn’t sound familiar.

It isn’t about putting God in schools, or having laws that reflect things that sway towards your interpretation of the Bible. It’s not about religion. It’s not about legality. It’s more than that. A lot more. This is about PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS with God. This warning (in today's verses), first applied to Israel now applies to us. We’re on the clock, friends. It’s time to stop trying to win people over with our minds and our pride. It’s time to stop trying to win people over with our laws. It’s time to stop trying to win people over by telling them what they CAN’T do. Instead, let’s tell them what they CAN do.

Let’s tell them the transformation we’ve gone through. Let’s tell them of how God has moved in our lives. Let’s tell them that believing in God is no longer enough. Let’s tell them how our lives have changed since we met Christ. Let’s tell them that their lives can be changed. Let’s tell them that God wants THEM more than ever. And even better, let’s get OURSELVES on a better relationship with Him so when He tells us to move, we do nothing else BUT move in the way He tells us.

We need to improve ourselves before we can improve others. If He is our potter, and we are the clay, then we need to let Him mold us, instead of us trying to mold others. After all, clay cannot mold other clay. And if clay doesn’t have that relationship with the potter, then it dies.

“…My people love to have it so”

~ Jeremiah 5:26-31

Lembra-te Do Amor Misericordioso Do Senhor # Remember The Lord's Steadfast Love

 #

The reason Isaiah had to write this prophecy is because Israel did not agree with verse seven. They did not see in God the source of their blessing, prosperity and protection so they wandered off the path He set for them. Christians can learn important lessons from this passage of prayer and praise.

Paul emulates this example well when he often mentions his thanks to God for various things. He is a thankful man to God for what He has done and the people He has put in Paul’s life and ministry. I suggest also reading Ephesians 1:6; Philippians 1:3; 4:6; and Colossians 1:3.

Our prayers to God should always include mention of His love towards us and thanksgiving for what He has done for us. When we forget this, it isn’t long before we are disappointed and frustrated with what God hasn’t done for us. Our focus becomes fixated on what we want, which happens to be what we don’t have, and we treat God like our butler. This view causes us to see God as impotent because we are only focusing on what He hasn’t provided for us yet. We have made our life plans for education, career, and social status without consulting God at all and we expect Him to deliver it like it’s a pizza. We are certainly not interested in His purposes for us.

Remembering His steadfast love to us in the past helps us build our trust in the Lord and lean not on our own understanding for the future. It connects the scriptures with real-life consequences, showing us that we can trust in His power to sustain, deliver, and bless us. When I look back at my past, I can see the many times when the Lord has delivered me from my troubles that I never knew were there. I get encouraged when I remember that God has a perfect record and always will.

Buscando Contentamento # Seeking Contentment

con·ten·te (francês content)
adjectivo de dois géneros
1. Que manifesta alegria ou felicidade. = Feliz, Alegre, Satisfeito
2. Que não exige mais. = Satisfeito

~ Filipenses 4:11-13

 #

con·tent (kuhn-tent)
adjective
Satisfied with what one is or has; not wanting more or anything else.

The apostle Paul is the writer of Philippians. Here he states that he has learned to be content in any situation. I love the definition of content. To be satisfied, not wanting. How often are we in a place like this? Paul says that he has been in times of hunger and of abundance, and he has learned to be content in all things. In times of hunger it is easy to want. Typically, I find that I am wanting money. When the time comes where I find myself pinching pennies, all I can think is that more money would just fix this problem, take away my anxiety, pay my bills, and make me feel better.

Or, on the flip side, when times are far more comfortable financially, I find myself wanting the next best thing. Maybe it’s new electronics, clothing, home décor, or whatever else seems to have you wrapped around it’s finger. It’s almost like as soon as I purchase one thing that I think will make me happy, it doesn’t. Then it’s off to the next thing to present itself to satisfy me.

What a sick cycle! It is only when we rest in God that we are truly content. God already knows what we need and what we don’t need. When we are at peace with Him and thankful for every blessing He has bestowed upon us, we are content. It doesn’t matter if we are broke or have an abundance of money, unless we let God satisfy us, we will never truly be content. Contentment is not based on your possessions, but on who possesses your heart, Jesus.

 #

Our God is eternal, transcendent, infinite, and all manner of awe-inspiring adjectives. But each of these still do us the simple service of describing the many facets of a wonderful fact: God is. He exists and has being in and of Himself. He does not depend on anything outside of Himself, yet all of creation finds itself completely reliant upon Him. This same God, whose thoughts and ways are as far above ours as the "heavens are higher than the earth" (Isaiah 55:9), will never be fully grasped or comprehended by the minds of men. Dr. Elmer Towns succinctly summarized this in commenting that as "sincerely as finite man attempts to understand theology, he encounters the infinity of God, he cannot comprehend every part of its teaching." This does not mean, however, that He cannot be known.

He has doubly revealed Himself to us through His Word written and incarnate. And in each of these we discover a depth that will never be fathomed or fully searched. But God does teach us who He is by engaging both our heads and hearts through Scripture and His Son. Men have written masterpieces and works of genius that have captivated us for hundreds of years, but they have never captured "infinity", something that has strata of eternal, transcendent truth. A beauty of the Scripture’s truth then is its practical engaging of our minds interwoven with the infinite mystery of how He exchanges our "heart of stone" for a "heart of flesh" (Ezekiel 36:26).

The truth of His Word has been expounded and explained for thousands of years, yet it stands un-exhausted. Author A.W. Pink described that "the most familiar passages will yield as much refreshment at the thousandth perusal as they did at the first. The Bible has been likened to a fountain of living water: the fountain is ever the same, but the water is always fresh." Scripture’s infinite and unfathomable nature mirrors its Author and reveals that Jesus, the Word incarnate, is the source and life of the eternity found in the pages of Scripture. God’s Word will stand forever.

~ Hebreus 4:13

To be laid bare is a terrifying thought to many. For someone to know every detail of our lives, from our darkest actions to our most depraved thoughts, is unsettling to say the least. There are people who project an image and work for years to construct a positive reputation only to have that carefully constructed facade come crashing down around them, usually making a mess in the lives of those surrounding them as well. In fact, Jesus named the Scribes and Pharisees to be people just like this, saying they were like "whitewashed tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but within are full of dead people’s bones." (Matthew 23:27).

Now here is an interesting conundrum: the religious men of any day, such as the Scribes and Pharisees, would undoubtedly profess that they lived a life of "holiness" to please God and fulfill His great designs for human living, yet interestingly when these religious men met God, He came to quite an opposite conclusion. We, being 2000 years removed from this scene, can quietly scoff and sneer at their hypocrisy while enjoying our modern authenticity. But ironically, this seems highly hypocritical of us! Understand this once and for all, genuinely dwell on this, that God knows everything. When we read that "all are naked and exposed" to His eyes, the text really means that "all are naked and exposed"! With that in mind, is our Christianity lived out as a theatrical performance for our friends, family, and fellow neighbours? This is a deep question. Remember, if our Christianity isn’t lived in honest expression privately as well as publicly, there is no point. God sees, God knows, and He, unlike people, can’t be fooled.

Have you ever seen the show, Clean House? On the outside, the house looks nice and the people look happy and normal. It isn’t until the host and her crew make their way inside the house with their cameras shining on the heaps of clothing, old magazines, stale food boxes, and garbage that the audience is introduced to what the house really looks like.

We are like the house. We can look wonderful on the outside with our new outfit and a smile pasted across our face as a welcome mat. To the neighbors passing by walking their dogs or taking their morning jog, we look great. However, on the inside of us is piles of junk that the people viewing us from the outside cannot see. Unconsciously, we walk pass the piled up clothes in our hearts and pretend that it is not there, but it’s there. Right along with the garbage we should’ve taken out two weeks ago.

Sometimes, we need an intervention to show us what’s really going on. When the living situation becomes unbearable, the owners of the house, a close friend, or their children contact the host to intervene. The host then "reveals" to the owners what the house really looks like by bringing in her cameras to inspect the place. After the host identifies the problem, the host shows the owners how to get rid of the junk and clean up the house.

God is the same way. He inspects our hearts with His host, the Holy Spirit, by shining the camera lights of His Word on every hidden place in our hearts to reveal to us what our heart condition is really like. But like the Clean House host and her crew, God doesn’t show us that our house is dirty without helping us clean it up. God will remove every stony place of un-forgiveness, every hoarded pile of envy, and the leftover shame. He will then help us take out our rubbish full of anger, and vacuum away every speck of hurt and sorrow. After removing all of the junk, your Heavenly Father will scrub away the residue (memory) of dirt left behind with the perfect disinfectant, the blood of His Son, Jesus. Then He will give your inside a complete makeover courtesy of Divine Design!

It glorifies God to see you beautiful, joyful, and rejoicing on the inside. This type of wholeness cannot be faked on the outside, but shines forth in a way that makes you stand out.

Podemos Ter A Bíblia À Nossa Maneira? # Can We Have The Bible Our Own Way?

 #

We live in a society that wants to tailor everything to our desires. We like to define our experience of reality and "have it our way." We like to customize everything from our sandwiches to our cars. Unfortunately, even though having things a certain way is by no means wrong, it is easy to fall into a trap of applying this type of philosophy to our Biblical studies.

Wouldn’t it be easy if we could only choose to follow the parts of the Bible that we really want to? What if we got really angry at someone and wanted to remain mad at them?

If we could customize our own version of the Bible, we could just ignore Ephesians 4:26. I think that there are many people who would love to have a Bible like that. After all, we customize everything else, so why should anything remain sacred? Why can’t we remove those inconvenient parts?

Unfortunately for the people who might want this, that is not the way it is. Paul told Timothy that all of the Bible is good for teaching and is in fact written by the inspiration of God. He did not say that only the parts of the Bible that you want to be true are true. God is the Absolute Truth rather than some relative being who changes based on the whims of whoever might want to define Him. Everything He has written through the Bible is all just as valid today as it was when it was first recorded.
