Todos enfrentam certos desafios na vida. Nalgum momento, todos nos deparamos com obstáculos que temos que saltar se quisermos continuar na nossa corrida. Mas notaste que, quando tiras os olhos do objectivo, sempre a olhar para trás para ver onde estão todos os outros, geralmente perdes o foco, tropeças e pode facilmente ser superado? É verdade nas corridas de rua; verdade na vida.
E outra coisa. Falamos muito sobre ir a milha extra, e isto é uma coisa boa. De facto, Jesus ensinou-nos a servir o máximo os outros. Mas muitas vezes ignoramos a importância de percorrer a primeira milha. Os atletas corredores sabem quando estão a treinar, nem sempre é a terceira ou quarta milha que é a mais difícil, é a primeira milha, apenas começar. Então, lembra-te, quer estejas a treinar para a maratona ou para a corrida diária da vida, a milha extra não significa nada, a menos que percorras fielmente a primeira milha e mantenhas os teus olhos na meta.

Everybody faces certain challenges in life. At some time, we all come across hurdles that we have to jump if we are to continue on our race. But have you noticed that when you take your eyes off the goal, always looking behind to see where everyone else is, you often lose your focus, trip, and can easily be over taken? True in road races; true in life.
And another thing. We talk a lot about going the extra mile, and that’s a good thing. In fact, Jesus taught us to go the extra mile in service to others. But we often overlook the importance of going the first mile. Joggers know when you’re training, it’s not always the third or fourth mile that’s the toughest, it’s the first mile, just getting started. So remember, whether you’re training for the marathon or for the daily race of life, the extra mile doesn’t mean anything unless you faithfully go the first mile and keep your eyes on the goal.

Nos tempos bíblicos, as mulheres não eram muito estimadas e não tinham muito a dizer sobre qualquer coisa que acontecesse fora de casa. Então, tenho a certeza de que a última coisa que alguém poderia esperar naquela sociedade patriarcal dominada pelos homens no primeiro século é que, nos planos de Deus, o primeiro convertido na Europa fosse uma mulher!
Quando Paulo (do Novo Testamento) viajava nas suas muitas viagens missionárias e chegava ao seu destino, ele geralmente ia directo à sinagoga local. Mas, para poder formar uma sinagoga, tinha que haver pelo menos 10 chefes de família na cidade. Filipos não tinha muitos Judeus, então não havia sinagoga! Bem, isto poderia ter sido um revés, mas Paulo ouviu falar de um grupo de mulheres tementes a Deus que estavam a ter uma reunião de oração junto do rio e ele saiu para se encontrar com elas. Não temos a certeza de quem mais estava neste grupo de mulheres, mas sabemos que uma delas se chamava Lídia. Ela era uma mulher de negócios muito bem sucedida de Tiatira, o maior fabricante para a distribuição de tecidos púrpuras. O pano púrpura foi usado apenas pela realeza e aristocratas ricos, por isso sabemos que Lídia era uma mulher que era rica e acompanhava uma multidão elitista. Ela era a Coco Chanel daqueles tempos.
As Escrituras não nos dizem exactamente como Paulo abordou estas mulheres, nem o que lhes disse. Mas sabemos que o coração de Lídia foi aberto para crer que Jesus era o Messias que ela estava à espera. Ela respondeu com fé, junto com toda a sua casa. Do lar de Lídia surgiu a primeira igreja do continente Europeu!
Ninguém elevou a posição social das mulheres como Jesus. Nenhuma religião elevou a posição social das mulheres como o Cristianismo. A escolha de Deus por Lídia como a primeira Cristã da Europa é um lembrete disto.

In Biblical times, women were not held in very high esteem and didn’t have much say about anything that went on outside of the home. So, I’m sure the last thing anyone would have expected in that male dominated patriarchal society of the first century is that in God’s plans, the first convert in Europe would be a woman!
When Paul (of the New Testament) traveled on his many missionary trips and arrived at his destination, he would usually go straight to the local synagogue. But, to be able to form a synagogue, there had to be at least 10 male heads of household in the town. Phillipi didn’t have many Jews, so there was no synagogue! Well, that could have been a setback, but Paul heard about a group of God-fearing women who were having a prayer meeting by the river and he headed out to find them. We aren’t sure who else was among this group of women, but we know one of them was named Lydia. She was a very successful businesswoman from Thyatira, the largest manufacturer for the distribution of purple cloth. Purple cloth was worn only by royalty and wealthy aristocrats, so we know that Lydia was a woman who was wealthy and ran with an elite crowd. She was the Coco Chanel of that day.
Scripture doesn’t tell us exactly how Paul approached these women, nor what he said to them. But we know that Lydia’s heart was opened to believe that Jesus was the Messiah she had been waiting for. She responded in faith, along with all of her household. From that household of Lydia came the founding of the very first church on the European continent!
No one has elevated the status of women like Jesus. No religion has elevated the status of women like Christianity. God’s choice of Lydia as Europe’s first Christian is a reminder of that.

Então, o dinheiro é uma questão profundamente espiritual, pois a maneira como usamos o nosso dinheiro revela o que pensamos sobre Deus. Como usamos isto revela os nossos corações. O dinheiro pode ser uma bênção ou uma maldição. Tudo depende da prioridade que tens na tua vida. Que seja o teu servo para o bem vs. o teu mestre. Escolher Cristo vs. o dinheiro é a chave.

"Money is not a spiritual issue" Really? Many of you feel there is no need for the church to focus on something as worldly as money.
Take a look at some statistics:
» Twenty-five of the 107 verses in the Sermon on the Mount deal with money and possessions.
» Two-thirds of the parables of Jesus deal with money and possession themes. For example:
1. The Parable of the Good Samaritan, one that contrasts stealing and greed with compassion and generosity.
2. The Parable of the Prodigal Son, the younger son who wanted all of his inheritance right then and he lost it all through selfish pleasure.
3. The Parable of the Talents, in the Bible, talents mostly refer to money, investments and creative abilities. Jesus is very clear in the Parable of the Talents that we’re to multiply whatever talents, whatever money, whatever investments God has entrusted to us. To ignore that makes us irresponsible servants of the Master.
So, money is a deeply spiritual issue, for how we use our money reveals what we think about God. How we use it reveals our hearts. Money can be a blessing or a curse. It all depends on what priority it has in your life. Let it be your servant for good vs. your master. Choosing Christ vs. money is the key.

Vamos esclarecer alguns dos principais mitos relativos ao dinheiro.
Mito #1: "O dinheiro não significa nada para mim." Bem, se o dinheiro não significa nada para ti, vende tudo o que tens e dá-o aos pobres, aos quais podes responder: "Isto não seria muito sábio. Como é que comeríamos e pagaríamos as nossas contas?” Então, obviamente, o dinheiro significa algo para ti, para todos nós. Nesse sentido, dizer que o dinheiro não significa nada para ti, é simplesmente uma afirmação falsa e estás a mentir ou em negação.
Mito #2: "O dinheiro é a chave para a felicidade." Agora, raramente uma pessoa realmente faz uma declaração como esta. A maioria das pessoas sabe que isto não é verdade. Mas no coração de muitos, existe a mentalidade de que, "se eu puder me concentrar em como ganhar mais dinheiro, posso comprar as coisas que me fazem feliz." É disto que trata a sua filosofia. No entanto, aqui está a ironia, quanto mais rica a cultura, estranhamente mais infeliz é.
Mito #3: "O dinheiro é a raiz de todo o mal." Muitas vezes, isto vem de Cristãos que pensam que estão a fazer uma declaração muito bíblica e espiritual e até afirmam a Bíblia como a fonte. ERRADO! Isto não é o que a Bíblia diz. O verso Bíblico para hoje é a fonte da VERDADE sobre o dinheiro.
Pois o amor ao dinheiro é raiz de todos os males. Algumas pessoas, por cobiçarem o dinheiro, desviaram-se da fé e se atormentaram a si mesmas com muitos sofrimentos.
Assim, é o amor ao dinheiro que é a raiz de todos os tipos de mal e tende a fazer com que o seguidor de Cristo comprometa os valores Bíblicos para ter o desejo de dinheiro satisfeito. Muitos afastam-se do seu relacionamento com Cristo por causa do amor ao dinheiro. O dinheiro, por si só, não é bom nem mau. É o que fazemos com o dinheiro que faz a diferença. Quando usado correctamente, o dinheiro pode ser uma ferramenta maravilhosa que Deus pode usar de uma forma que Lhe agrada e de auxilio para os outros.

Let’s clear up some of the major myths concerning money.
Myth #1: "Money means nothing to me." Well, if money means nothing to you, sell all that you have and give it to the poor, to which you might respond, "That wouldn’t be very wise. How would we eat and pay our bills?" So, obviously, money means something to you, to all of us. In that regard, to say that money means nothing to you, is simply an untrue statement and you are either lying or in denial.
Myth #2: "Money is the key to happiness." Now, rarely will a person actually make a statement like that. Most people know that isn’t true. But in the heart of hearts of many, there is the mentality that, "If I can I just focus on how to make more money, I can buy the things that make me happy." That’s really what the philosophy is all about. Yet, here is the irony, the more affluent the culture, it’s uncanny how much more often unhappiness is the result.
Myth #3: "Money is the root of all evil." Very often this come from Christians who think they are making a very biblical and spiritual statement and even credit the Bible as the source. WRONG! That is not what the Bible says. Today’s Scripture verse is the source of the TRUTH about money.
For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many a grief.
So, it is the love of money that is the root of all sorts of evil and tends to cause the follower of Christ to compromise Biblical values in order to have the desire for money satisfied. Many wander away from their relationship with Christ because of their love of money. Money, in and of itself, is neither good nor bad. It is what we do with money that makes the difference. When used correctly, money can be a wonderful tool that God can use in a way that is pleasing to Him and helpful to others.
