Eu não sei o que pensas, mas eu detesto esperar. E tu detestas esperar? Sabes que podes ir a uma consulta num consultório médico, digamos, às 9h00. Chegas lá, sentas-te, 5, 10, 15 minutos passam e eles não te chamam. Vais até à mesinha e começas a olhar à volta e tudo o que encontras é uma revista da Men's Health de 2015 e pode levar outros 30 a 45 minutos, ou até uma hora antes de chegarem até ti. Eu detesto isso.
Também não gosto de esperar nas longas filas dos supermercados, ficar preso no trânsito durante a hora de ponta ou ser colocado em espera por um computador. Na nossa cultura, esperar é uma perda de tempo. Mas uma coisa é certa: O que precisamos de fazer é confiar em Deus e estar dispostos a fazer a vontade Dele, no Seu tempo, não no nosso próprio, pois a acção correcta na hora certa equivale ao resultado correcto.
Então, o que realmente significa "esperar no Senhor?" Eu vou te dizer uma coisa, não significa apenas ficar parado e não fazer nada, essa não é a ideia. Eu sei que é assim que esperamos em muitas áreas da nossa vida. Temos que ficar parados e ficar quietos e não fazer nada. A palavra 'espera' no Hebraico original significa: "ser amarrado como uma corda ou torcido ou unido." Então, esperar no Senhor significa que confias Nele, humilhas-te e confias na Sua força, que obedeces à Sua Palavra e ordens. Ela transmite todos estes significados. Às vezes é muito difícil esperar no Senhor para que as coisas aconteçam, para que as coisas tomem o seu lugar, mas se fizermos aquelas coisas, se confiarmos no Senhor e se nos humilharmos sob a Sua poderosa mão e nos certificarmos de que Lhe obedecemos, então seremos abençoados. Esperar em Deus é difícil, mas o tempo de Deus é sempre melhor para nós e para os outros.

I don’t know about you but I hate to wait. Do you hate to wait? You know you can go and have an appointment at a doctor’s office, say at 9:00 am. You get in there, sit down, 5, 10, 15 minutes go by, and they haven’t called you. You go over to the magazine rack and start looking around and all you find is a 2015 Men's Health and it may be another 30-45 minutes, or even an hour before they get to you. I hate that.
I also don’t like to wait in long lines at supermarkets, being stuck in traffic during rush hour, or being put on hold by a computer. In our culture, waiting is a waste of time. But one thing’s for sure: What we need to do is to trust God and be willing to do His will, in His timing, not our own, for the right action at the right time equals the right result.
So, what does it really mean to "wait on the Lord?" I’ll tell you one thing, it doesn’t mean just to stand still and do nothing, that’s not the idea. I know that is the way we wait in many areas of our life. We have to stand still and be quiet and not do anything. The word 'wait' in the original Hebrew means, "to be bound like a rope or twisted or bonded together." So, to wait on the Lord means that you trust Him, that you humble yourself and rely on His strength, that you obey His Word and commands. It conveys all those meanings. Sometimes it’s very difficult to wait on the Lord for things to happen, for things to take place, but if we will do those things, if we will trust the Lord and if we will humble ourselves under His mighty hand and make sure we obey His will, then we will be blessed. Waiting on God is tough, but God’s timing is always best for us and for others.

Como é que o Senhor sugere que juntemos muitos trabalhadores para realizar a Sua obra na terra? Ele simplesmente diz aos Seus seguidores que orem ao Senhor da colheita para enviar trabalhadores para partilhar a sua fé em Jesus Cristo com pessoas que não O conhecem pessoalmente. A oração é o ponto de partida.
Agora, alguns estarão a pensar: “Graças a Deus! Estou mais aliviado! Só tenho que orar sobre isto! Não tenho que me envolver, servir e participar da colheita. Vou apenas orar!” Será que Jesus nos dispensa assim tão levemente? Na verdade não. Jesus sabe que quando começamos a orar por trabalhadores, as escamas serão removidas dos nossos olhos. How does the Lord suggest we gather plenty of workers to do His work on earth? He simply tells His followers to pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out harvesters to share their faith in Jesus Christ with people who don’t know Him personally. Prayer is the starting point.
Now, some of you are thinking, "Thank goodness! I’m off the hook! I just have to pray about it! I don’t have to get involved, serve and take part in the harvest. I’ll just pray!" Does Jesus let us off so lightly? Not really. Jesus knows that when we begin to pray for harvesters, the scales will be removed from our eyes. He begins to reveal the world He sees. Then we’ll begin to see the people around us as He sees them. The Holy Spirit then convicts us to love them and pray for them to come to know Him. Over time God may use us to be the harvester.
So, when you begin to pray for the harvest, beware! God will open your eyes and you’ll be convicted of the needs all around you. He’ll transform your heart into the heart of a harvester.

Muitas pessoas aceitaram a mentira: Se eu fizer o suficiente, então serei suficientemente bom. Mas a verdade é que nunca seremos suficientemente bons. E tudo bem; porque Deus oferece-nos o perdão através da morte de Jesus na cruz. O problema, no entanto, é que muitas pessoas ainda estão a tentar ganhar o seu caminho para Deus. O perdão de Deus liberta-nos dos nossos pecados passados e vergonha. Saber que o coração de Deus começa a transformar o nosso, muda a vida. O maior milagre da vida é um coração transformado.

Too many people have bought the lie: If I do enough, then I will be good enough. But, the truth is, we will never be good enough. And that’s ok; because God offers us forgiveness through Jesus’ death on the cross. The problem, however, is that too many people are still trying to earn their way to God. They are stuck with a head-knowledge of God, rather than a personal, life changing experience of the heart.
You see, when we finally experience the truth of the good news of Christ on a personal level, lives begin to change. The undeserved grace and forgiveness that comes from faith in Jesus begins to transform our hearts. And as hearts change, lives change. Suddenly, our desires begin to line up with God’s desires. We have an inner want to and an empowerment to do so because of the grace that we’ve received. Life change begins in the heart.
Are you struggling with a restlessness in your life? An uneasiness in your spirit? Maybe you’ve never really encountered God on a 'heart' level. Maybe you’re like too many people calling themselves Christians but whom have a head-based faith. You believe the Bible, but have never really understood it on a personal level. Or, maybe you’ve rejected God because of the actions of flawed people in the name of religion.
The truth is simple: no matter your past, your pain or your doubts, God’s love offers us peace. God’s grace offers us a fresh start. God’s forgiveness frees us from our past sins and shame. Knowing God’s heart begins to transform our own, is life changing. The greatest miracle in life is a transformed heart.

Acho interessante que Cristo ainda não tinha sido crucificado quando disse: "Aquele que não toma a sua cruz e não Me segue não é digno de Mim." Como é que entendemos isto? Para um Judeu do primeiro século a viver numa terra ocupada por Roma, não seria incomum ver homens condenados a carregarem a sua cruz para o seu local de execução. Ele usou esta imagem para explicar as altas expectativas que Ele tinha para a devoção dos Seus discípulos. Ele disse-lhes o que Ele está a dizer-nos agora: "Se vais Me seguir, tens que estar disposto a morrer por Mim."
Então, pergunto-me: "Estou eu disposto?" Quando Jesus dá este desafio, penso em como sou fraco. Penso em como sou cobarde, egoísta e pecador. E penso nos mártires Cristãos de hoje, ao saber que há mais perseguição aos Cristãos agora do que houve em toda a história. Eu penso nas pessoas que vivem nesta situação e pergunto-me, se estaria disposto a passar por tortura por Cristo? Estaria eu disposto a dar a minha vida por Cristo? Eu espero bem que sim.

I find it interesting that Christ had not yet been crucified when He said, "He who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me." How do we make sense of that? For a first century Jewish man living in a land occupied by Rome, it would not be unusual to see condemned men carrying their cross to their execution site. He used this image to explain the high expectations He had for His disciples’ devotion. He told them what He is telling us now: "If you’re going to follow Me, you’ve got to be willing to die for Me." So I ask myself this question, "Am I willing?" When Jesus gives this challenge, I think about how weak I am. I think about how cowardly, selfish, and sinful I am. And I think about Christian martyrs today, knowing that there is more persecution of Christians going on right now than there has been in all of history. I think about people living in that situation and I wonder, would I be willing to go through torture for Christ? Would I be willing to give my life for Christ? I surely hope so.
If you call yourself a Christian, do you know what you would do?

O que há de tão mau na pornografia? Não se está de facto a magoar ninguém. É na verdade um crime sem vítimas. Certo?
Errado.
O facto é que olhar para pornografia é um comportamento incrivelmente viciante. Foi até chamado o crack de cocaína do vício sexual; brincar com pornografia carrega os mesmos perigos que usar cocaína ou heroína. É o mesmo tipo de vício, especialmente na vida de um homem. E este vício pode ter um efeito devastador tanto nos homens envolvidos como nas famílias.
A pornografia deprecia o que Deus criou como uma coisa linda para ser desfrutada entre marido e mulher. Cria uma mentalidade em que uma mulher é vista como um objecto a ser usado, e quando acaba, joga-se fora; descarta-se. Encontra outra!
A pornografia cria um mundo de fantasia, completamente fora do contacto com a realidade, que pode causar uma sensação de insatisfação com a esposa de um homem. Não há forma da tua esposa poder competir com este mundo de fantasia. E o efeito dos divórcios causados pelo vício da pornografia é catastrófico para o homem, a sua esposa, a sua família e para a sociedade como um todo. Crime sem vítimas? Nem penses. As nossas comunidades estão saturadas pelas lágrimas das vítimas devastadas.

What’s so bad about pornography? It’s not really hurting anyone. It’s really a victimless crime. Right?
Wrong.
The fact is that looking at porn is an incredibly addictive behavior. It has even been called the crack cocaine of sexual addiction; dabbling in porn carries the same dangers as dabbling in cocaine or heroin. It’s the same kind of addictive draw, especially in a man’s life. And this addiction can have a devastating effect on both the men that engage in it, as well as their families.
Pornography cheapens what God invented as a beautiful thing to be enjoyed between a husband and wife. It creates a mindset where a woman is seen as an object to be used, and when it’s over, throw it away; discard it. Find another one!
Porn creates a fantasy world, totally out of touch with reality, that can cause a sense of dissatisfaction with a man’s wife. There’s just no way his wife can compete with this fantasy world. And the effect of the divorces caused by porn addiction is catastrophic to the man, his wife, his family, and to society as a whole. Victimless crime? Not on your life. Our communities are saturated by the tears of devastated victims.

Sabes uma coisa? Há coisas mais terríveis feitas em nome da religião do que em nome de qualquer outra coisa. Eu costumava ser bastante defensivo quando alguém dizia isso, mas agora, tenho a tendência de concordar, e acho que Jesus concordaria também. Muitos problemas ocorreram porque, na verdade, grande parte da religião não presta. Vamos pensar sobre o que podemos aprender com Jesus sobre momentos em que a religião não presta:

Jesus veio para salvar-nos do pecado e de uma religião que não presta. Sabes, o Cristianismo não é sobre uma religião, é sobre um relacionamento com Deus. E através de Cristo, podemos aprender sobre este relacionamento e descobrir a resposta para a vida.

You know something? There are more awful things done in the name of religion than in anything else. I used to be pretty defensive when somebody said that but now, I tend to agree, and I think Jesus would agree as well. Lots of problems have occurred because, in reality, much of religion stinks. Let’s think about what we can learn from Jesus about times when religion stinks:
» When religion puts ceremonial law before the needs of man;
» When good people are accused of evil because legalism is confused with Godliness;
» When religion seeks to hurt more than help;
» When religion causes man to be hardhearted towards Jesus and the needs of others;
» When religion plots to kill versus save, motivated by hate more than love.
Jesus came to save us from sin and a religion that stinks. You see, Christianity is not about a religion, it’s about a relationship with God. And through Christ, we can learn of that relationship and discover the answer to life.

É incrível a frequência com que Deus escolheu homens nos seus anos seniores para participar de grandes coisas para o Seu reino. Pensa em Noé que terminou de construir a arca aos 600 anos de idade. Depois, temos Abraão que, com fé, deixou a sua casa aos 75 anos, para se mudar para uma terra nova e desconhecida que só Deus conhecia, confiando em Deus para liderar o caminho. Consegues imaginar o que os seus vizinhos devem ter pensado? Até mesmo Moisés tinha 80 anos quando enfrentou o homem mais poderoso do mundo e levou uma nação à liberdade. Exemplo após exemplo na escritura de Deus a usar homens mais velhos para participar das maiores aventuras das suas vidas!
Na cultura de hoje, a maioria das pessoas aguarda a aposentação. É uma oportunidade de desacelerar, dar um passo atrás e relaxar. Mas, na realidade, a Palavra de Deus não fala de aposentação para ninguém para além dos Levitas. Para todos os outros, simplesmente não existe. Agora todos sabemos que, à medida que envelhecemos os nossos níveis de energia mudam. Recuar de certas pressões e responsabilidades vocacionais pode tornar-se necessário. Mas a fantasia de aposentar-se para fazer nada mais do que jogar golfe e preocupar-se com carteiras de investimento pode levar a uma vida muito chata e sem sentido. Embora possamos desacelerar por razões físicas, ainda podemos fazer uma contribuição significativa para o reino de Deus, SE ESTIVERMOS DISPOSTOS.
Estás a entrar na tua aposentação? Pergunta a Deus como é que Ele quer usar-te nessa altura. É hora de redefinir a aposentação, vamos chamá-la de redireccionamento. Porque assim como Moisés, Abraão e inúmeros outros, esta nova etapa da vida poderá ter ainda a tua maior aventura!

It’s amazing how often God chose men in their senior adult years to take part in huge things for His kingdom. Think about Noah who finished building the ark at 600 years old. Then there’s Abraham who in faith left his home at 75, to move to a new and unknown land only God knew, trusting God to lead the way. Can you imagine what his neighbors must have thought? Even Moses was 80 years old when he stood up to the most powerful man in the world and led a nation to freedom. Example after example in scripture of God using older men to take part in the greatest adventures of their lifetimes!
In today’s culture, most people look forward to retirement. It’s a chance to slow down, to step back and to relax. But in reality, God’s Word doesn’t speak of retirement for anyone but the Levites. For everyone else, it’s just not there. Now we all know that as we age our energy level changes. Stepping back from certain vocational pressures and responsibilities can become necessary. But the fantasy of retiring to do nothing more than play golf and worry about investment portfolios can lead to a pretty boring and meaningless life. While we may slow down for physical reasons, we can still make a significant contribution to the kingdom of God, IF WE ARE WILLING.
Are you entering your retirement years? Ask God how He wants to use you in this season. It’s time to redefine retirement, let’s call it redirection. Because just like Moses, Abraham, and countless others, this next season just might hold your greatest adventure yet!

Infelizmente, o livro de Kushner pinta uma imagem de um Deus muito pequeno, embora tenha ajudado muitas pessoas a passar por momentos difíceis.
Há uma maravilhosa história da Bíblia que descreve um Deus muito maior. É a história de três jovens Hebreus que se recusaram a adorar os ídolos do rei da Babilónia, Nabucodonosor. Podes encontrá-la na Bíblia no livro de Daniel, capítulo 3. Embora tenham sido ameaçados de serem atirados para uma fornalha, eles mantiveram-se fieis na sua devoção a Deus. A sua resposta: "Deus pode nos poupar da fornalha ardente; Ele tem esse poder. Mas, mesmo que não o faça, nunca serviremos aos seus deuses nem nos curvaremos à sua estátua." Eles escolheram confiar em Deus mesmo quando não fazia sentido aos olhos do mundo fazê-lo. E Deus pagou esta fé ao protegê-los do fogo da fornalha.
Deus nunca nos levará a um provação que seja muito difícil para lidarmos. Não importa quão difíceis sejam as tuas provações, podes confiar na promessa Dele. Nenhuma provação é demasiada grande para nós com o poder de Deus. Ele nos dará uma forma para a suportar, resistir ou passar por ela.

"There is only one question which really matters to a lot of people: Why do bad things happen to good people?" This question, which all of us ask from time to time, became the title Rabbi Harold Kushner’s best-selling book, Why Bad Things Happen to Good People. Sadly, Kushner’s book paints a picture of a very small God, although it did help a lot of people going through tough times.
There is a wonderful Bible story that describes a much greater God. It’s the story of three Hebrew boys who refused to worship the idols of the Babylonian king, Nebuchadnezzar. You can find it in the Bible in the book of Daniel, Chapter 3. Even though they were threatened with being thrown in a furnace, they held fast in their devotion to God. Their response, "God can spare us from the fiery furnace; He has that power. But, even if He does not, we’ll never serve your gods or bow down to your statue." They chose to trust God even when it made no earthly sense to do so. And God repaid that faith by seeing that they were not harmed by the fires in the furnace.
God will never take us through a time of testing that is too tough for us to deal with. No matter how difficult your trials, you can bank on His promise. No trial is too great for us with the power of God. He will give us a way to endure it, to resist it, or to get through it.
