Conhecimento nem sempre significa acção. Sabemos que comer "junk food" (comida lixo) não é bom para nós, mas ainda assim o fazemos. Sabemos que fazer exercícios regularmente ajuda o nosso corpo e ainda assim não o fazemos. Dizemos aos nossos filhos para não tocar na panela quente no fogão e ainda assim o fazem. Só porque sabemos alguma coisa, isso não significa que vamos vivê-la ou experimentá-la.
Temos a tendência de dar às pessoas muita teologia Biblicamente baseada, filosofia pensativa, até mesmo estratégias úteis para a vida, mas esta grande riqueza de informações não se traduz necessariamente a uma longa distância de vida transformada. Todos conhecemos abundantemente Cristãos que sabem o que a Bíblia diz, mas que lutam para ligar estas verdades às suas vidas diárias e mais importante ainda, o que Deus quer fazer em e através deles no contexto do mundo real. Podemos ver a partir da passagem de hoje que Jesus não era só sobre o saber as coisas certas, Ele também as experimentava.
Depois de ensinar os discípulos Ele envia-os para aplicar os conhecimentos que aprenderam de Jesus e a Sua missão. Até vemos Jesus a aplicar os Seus ensinamentos a experiências específicas pelas quais os Seus discípulos passaram (Lucas 5:1-11, Lucas 5:27-31). Devemos examinar continuamente os nossos motivos para ler as nossas Bíblias, ouvir sermões, ler devoções da bíblia, ou mesmo discutir assuntos espirituais com os amigos. As coisas que aprendemos com a nossa Bíblia e o Espírito Santo deve estimular-nos à acção e não apenas permanecer dormente nas nossas mentes.

Knowledge does not always mean action. We know that eating junk food isn’t good for us, but we still do it. We know that exercising regularly helps our bodies and we still don’t do it. We tell our kids to not touch the hot pan on the stove and they still do it. Just because we know something, that doesn’t mean we will live it out or experience it.
We tend to give people a lot of Bible based theology, thoughtful philosophy, even helpful strategies for life, but this great wealth of information does not necessarily translate to a long-haul-life-change. We all know plenty of Christians who know what the Bible says but who struggle to connect these truths to their daily lives and even more importantly, to what God wants to do in and through them in the context of the real world. We can see from today's passage that Jesus wasn’t just about knowing the right things, He was about experiencing them as well.
After teaching the disciples He sends them out to apply the knowledge they have learned of Jesus and His mission. We even see Jesus applying His teachings to specific experiences His disciples went through (Luke 5:1-11, Luke 5:27-31). We must continually examine our motives for reading our Bibles, listening to sermons, reading bible devotions, or even discussing spiritual matters with friends. The things we learn from our Bible and the Holy Spirit should spur us to action and not just lay dormant in our minds.
