Não sei a tua opinião, mas quando penso numa conversa sobre paciência, normalmente não penso em imagens felizes. Toda a conversa que gira à volta da paciência lembra-me a pouca que eu realmente tenho! Uma vez ouvi alguém dizer que nunca oravam por paciência porque sabiam que se pedissem paciência, Deus os colocaria em situações em que precisavam de paciência, e essas eram as situações que tentavam evitar! A realidade é que a paciência é uma virtude que é difícil de encontrar!
Todos sabemos que precisamos de mais paciência nas nossas vidas, mas tudo no mundo em que vivemos está a ensinar-nos e a condicionar-nos a operar com cada vez menos paciência. Internet de alta velocidade, fornos de microondas, fast food drive thru. E continua por aí adiante. Não é de admirar que não tenhamos paciência! Se não acontece rapidamente e quando queremos, ficamos irritados! Como resultado da nossa luta com a paciência, pode ser difícil para nós compreender verdadeiramente a paciência de Deus e ver o dom da Sua paciência para connosco.
A boa notícia é que Deus não é como nós! Nós não somos como Deus! Não é fantástico? Temos a tendência de ver Deus através da lente da nossa humanidade, mas Ele é Deus! Ele não luta com a paciência! Não é como se Ele estivesse a morder o lábio e a cerrar os Seus dentes para aturar-nos. A paciência não é algo sobre o qual Ele tem de trabalhar. Ele é a paciência! É um dos Seus atributos, parte do Seu carácter.
Deixa-me esclarecer isto. Se Deus não fosse um Deus paciente, não teríamos nenhuma oportunidade para nada. Então, vamos olhar mais de perto a Sua paciência:
1. A paciência de Deus é sobrenatural. Através da Sua lente infinita, "um dia é como mil anos e mil anos como um dia." E Ele ama-nos. De facto, a Sua paciência é alimentada pelo Seu amor por nós.
2. A paciência de Deus é para um propósito. Para levar-nos ao arrependimento. O que é o arrependimento? É ter outra mente. Dar meia volta e seguir noutra direcção. Então, a Sua paciência é para nos levar a um lugar onde possamos reconhecer a Sua incrível e bela graça e misericórdia.
3. A paciência de Deus aponta para a Glória de Deus. Quando entendemos verdadeiramente a realidade desta afirmação, é um pensamento sóbrio. Nem todos chamarão o nome do Senhor, então há uma urgência para levar esta mensagem da paciência de Deus. Está a chegar o dia em que cada um de nós vamos ter que ficar diante do Deus Altíssimo. Todas as nossas obras serão expostas. Estaremos completamente expostos. Naquele dia, a Glória de Deus será perfeita e completamente revelada. Aqueles que são seguidores de Jesus Cristo estarão diante de Deus e quando Ele nos olhar, Ele verá o Seu Filho, Jesus Cristo. Por causa do que Jesus fez por nós na cruz, em vez de ver as nossas obras imperfeitas, Deus verá as boas e perfeitas obras do Seu Filho. A Sua paciência e graça serão exibidas gloriosamente. Será lindo para além da nossa imaginação.
Não percas o dom da paciência de Deus enquanto Ele te acompanha com a Sua misericórdia e graça. A Sua paciência está convidar-te a confiar Nele como o teu Salvador e Senhor.

I don’t know about you, but when I think about a conversation on patience I typically don’t think happy thoughts. Every conversation that revolves around patience reminds me how little I truly have! I once heard someone say they didn’t ever pray for patience because they knew if they prayed for patience, God would put them in situations where they needed patience and those were the situations they are trying to avoid! The reality is patience is a virtue that is difficult to find!
We all know we need more patience in our lives, but everything in the world we live in is teaching us and conditioning us to operate with less and less patience. High speed internet, microwave ovens, fast food drive thru. This goes on and on. No wonder we struggle with patience! If it does not happen quickly and when we want it, we are ticked! As a result of our struggle with patience, it can be difficult for us to truly understand the patience of God and see the gift of His patience toward us.
The good news is God is not like us! We are not like God! Isn’t that great? We have a tendency to view God through the lens of our humanity, but He is God! He does not struggle with patience! It is not like He is biting His lip and gritting His teeth to put up with you. Patience is not something He has to work on. He IS patience! It is one of His attributes, part of His character.
Let me make this clear. If God was not a patient God, we would have no chance for anything. So, let’s look more closely at His patience:
1. God’s patience is supernatural. Through His infinite lens, "one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day." And He loves us. In fact, His patience is fueled by His love for us.
2. God’s patience is for a purpose. To lead us to repentance. What is repentance? It’s to have another mind. To turn around and go the other direction. So, His patience is meant to lead us to a place where we can recognize His amazing, beautiful grace and mercy.
3. The patience of God points to the Glory of God. When we truly understand the reality of this statement, it is a sobering thought. Not all will call on the name of the Lord, so there is an urgency to this message of God’s patience. A day is coming for each of us when we will have to stand before the most high God. All of our works will be exposed. We will be totally and completely laid bare. On that day the Glory of God will be perfectly and completely revealed. Those who are followers of Jesus Christ will stand before God and when He looks at us, He will see His Son, Jesus Christ. Because of what Jesus did for us on the cross, instead of seeing our imperfect works and deeds, God will see the good and perfect works of His Son. His patience and grace will be gloriously displayed. It will be beautiful beyond our imaginations.
Don’t miss out on the gift of God’s patience as He pursues you with His mercy and grace. His patience is inviting you to trust in Him as your Savior and Lord.
