Fermento # Leaven

O fermento é uma substância, normalmente levedura, que é adicionada à massa de pão para fazê-la crescer. Leva apenas uma pequena quantidade e toda a bola de massa fica permeada pela levedura e começará a crescer. Por toda a Bíblia o fermento é utilizado como uma analogia para o mal que se arrasta sobre a vida de pessoas. Jesus diz aos discípulos que atentem para ele (Mateus 16:6) e Paulo menciona-o novamente em (1 Coríntios 5:6-7). Paulo está especificamente a referir-se a um legalismo que tem se arrastado para o Evangelho na igreja na Galácia, e que tem realmente o torcido, distorcendo a verdade do Evangelho. A palavra de Paulo eram relevantes na época, e elas são aplicáveis para as nossas vidas hoje.

O fermento, no entanto, não é sempre igual a legalismo. O fermento pode referir-se a qualquer doutrina distorcida que é anexada ao Evangelho. Devemos ser cuidadosos quando seguimos e ouvimos líderes religiosos que são grandes comunicadores ou criativos nas suas apresentações. Eles podem ser divertidos de se ouvir, e podem falar pedaços de verdade de vez em quando, mas se há um fermento de má doutrina na sua mensagem, isso poderá impedir-nos de obedecer à verdade do Evangelho, enquanto permeia cada esquina do pensamento e da vida. Nós não somos melhores do que os discípulos que Jesus alertou para isto ou as igrejas da Galácia e Corinto que foram advertidas por Paulo. Então, temos de estar sempre em alerta enquanto ouvimos e seguimos os líderes religiosos e comunicadores.

Leaven is a substance, typically yeast, that is added to dough to make it rise. It only takes a small amount and the entire lump of dough has been permeated by the yeast and will begin rising. Throughout the Bible leaven is used as an analogy for evil that creeps into the lives of people. Jesus tells the disciples to watch out for it (Matthew 16:6) and Paul mentions it again in (1 Corinthians 5:6-7). Paul is specifically referencing a legalism that has creeped into the Gospel at the church in Galatia, and has actually twisted it, distorting the Gospel’s truth. Paul’s word were relevant then, and they are applicable to our lives today.

Leaven doesn’t always equal legalism, however. Leaven can refer to any distorted doctrine that is attached to the Gospel. We must be careful as we follow and listen to religious leaders who are great communicators or creative in their presentations. They might be fun to listen to, and they may speak bits of truth once in a while, but if there is a leaven of bad doctrine in their message, it can hinder us from obeying the truth of the Gospel as it creeps into every corner of thought and life. We are no better than the disciples who Jesus warned of this or the churches in Galatia and Corinth who were warned by Paul. So, we must always be on guard as we listen to and follow religious leaders and communicators.
