Imagina alguém a conduzir numa estrada estreita com uma linha sólida e amarela no meio. A lei diz para não atravessar esta linha. De repente, aparece alguém a fazer jogging. Não há espaço suficiente tanto para o corredor como para o carro nesta faixa, mas o motorista prefere bater no corredor do que cruzar a linha amarela. Isto é legalismo. (As regras acima das pessoas podem ser levadas a extremos bizarros).
Jesus lutou contra o legalismo durante todo o Seu ministério. E enquanto Ele nunca quebrou os mandamentos do Seu Pai Celestial, Ele conscientemente desconsiderou as regras artificiais criadas para manter as pessoas na linha, tentando ganhar o favor de Deus através de boas obras. Vemos isto acontecer quando Jesus curou um homem no sábado, o santo dia de descanso. Os líderes religiosos da época deveriam ter ficado emocionados com este milagre. Mas em vez disso, eles estavam tão concentrados nas regras que perderam a alegria.
Jesus não só revela o coração compassivo de Deus através deste milagre, mas vemos Jesus disposto a quebrar as regras artificiais para alcançar a dor. Porquê? Porque estas regras desnecessárias podem criar tanta culpa e dor no processo que sentimos falta do verdadeiro coração de Deus. Podemos concentrar-nos tanto em obedecer às regras que começamos a pensar que podemos ganhar a nossa salvação. OU podemos ficar tão magoados e sobrecarregados por causa das regras que nos afastamos de tudo o que está remotamente associado a elas, Igreja, religião e até o próprio Deus.
Muitos de nós fomos magoados e ficámos decepcionados por pessoas ou instituições religiosas que afirmam reflectir Deus. Por causa da nossa dor, afastámo-nos de tudo o que eles representavam, até mesmo rejeitando Deus no processo. Se estás a cuidar de feridas antigas provocadas por pessoas e instituições imperfeitas, leva-as diante de Cristo Jesus. Afinal, Ele tem lutado contra o legalismo desde o início. Deixa Jesus lutar por ti. Deixa Jesus revelar a Verdade sobre como viver.

Imagine someone driving down a narrow road with a solid, yellow line down the middle. The law says to not cross this line. Suddenly, a jogger comes into view. There’s not enough room for both the jogger and car in that lane, but the driver would rather hit the jogger than cross the yellow line. This is legalism. (Rules before people can be carried to bizarre extremes).
Jesus battled legalism throughout His ministry. And while He never broke the commands of His Heavenly Father, He knowingly disregarded manmade rules created to keep people in line, trying to earn God’s favor through good works. We see this played out when Jesus healed a man on the Sabbath, the holy day of rest. The religious leaders of the time should have been thrilled at this miracle. Instead, they were so focused on the rules that they missed the joy.
Jesus not only reveals the compassionate heart of God through this miracle, but we see Jesus willing to break manmade rules to reach the hurting. Why? Because these unnecessary rules can create so much guilt and pain in the process that we miss the true heart of God. We can become so focused on obeying the rules that we start to think we can earn our salvation. OR we can become so hurt and burdened because of the rules that we turn away from everything remotely associated with them, Church, religion, even God himself.
Many of us have been hurt and disappointed by people or religious institutions claiming to reflect God. Out of our hurt we’ve turned away from everything they’ve stood for, even rejecting God in the process. If you’re nursing old wounds delivered by flawed people and institutions, bring it before Christ Jesus. After all, He’s been fighting legalism from the very beginning. Let Jesus fight for you. Let Jesus reveal the Truth on how to live.
