Adoramos presentes durante o Natal. Adoramos ver o camião de entregas de pacotes a parar à frente da casa, e ansiosamente descemos as escadas para atender a porta. Uma vez lá dentro, o pacote é imediatamente rasgado e tudo o que estava no interior é colocado rapidamente a uso. Muitas vezes, quando começamos a usar o novo produto, (se for bom, é claro), descobrimos muitas características que nunca soubemos que tinha! Às vezes, as coisas acabam por ser ainda melhores do que tínhamos previsto.
O mesmo é definitivamente verdadeiro com Deus, Ele é infinitamente melhor do que antecipámos. Mas, ainda tentamos manter Deus numa "Caixa de Deus" e pensamos Nele em termos das características interessantes com que Ele vem. Na realidade, Ele quer sair para fora da caixa e mostrar-nos o quanto mais Ele é. Deus fez isso com os pastores. Ele disse-lhes que iriam encontrar um bebé, que iria salvar o mundo, envolto em panos e deitado numa manjedoura. Isto é pensar fora da caixa! Mais do que provavelmente, eles tinham a sua própria "Caixa de Deus", provavelmente com o salvador a ser um tipo ditador militar. Mas, Deus rompeu esse paradigma e mostrou a Sua grande misericórdia e compaixão. Quando Ele saiu "da caixa", mostrou-lhes que Ele é um Deus que se estende para aqueles que ninguém mais quer. Os pastores não eram considerados os mais moralmente capazes. Na verdade, eles não costumavam ir à igreja porque as ovelhas precisavam de ser constantemente cuidadas, e não podiam nem mesmo testemunhar em tribunal. No entanto, eles foram os primeiros a ouvir as boas novas do nascimento do Salvador. Isto não foi um acaso!
Enquanto lê a sua Bíblia, não deixe que as suas noções preconcebidas de quem Deus é interprete o que lê. Em vez disso, deixe que a escritura e o Espírito Santo o guie nas características de Deus. Deixe Deus sair da Sua caixa na sua vida hoje e mostrar-lhe quem Ele realmente é. Lembre-se, os Seus pensamentos e caminhos não são os nossos (Isaías 55:8).

We love gifts during Christmas. We love seeing the package delivery truck pull up in front of the house, and we eagerly hop down the stairs to answer the door. Once inside, the package is immediately ripped open and whatever was contained inside is put to quick use. Many times, when we begin using the new product,( if it’s a good one that is), we discover many features we never knew it had! Sometimes, things turn out to be even better than we had anticipated.
The same is definitely true with God, He is infinitely better than we anticipate. But, we still try to keep God in a "God Box" and think of Him in terms of the nifty features He comes with. In reality He wants us to let Him come bursting out of the box and show us how much more He is. God did this with the shepherds. He told them they would find a baby, who would save the world, wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a feed trough. That is thinking outside the box! More than likely, they had their own "God Box", likely with the savior being a military dictator-type. But, God burst that paradigm and displayed His abundant mercy and compassion. When He got out of "the box" , He showed them that He is a God who reaches out to those that no one else wants to. Shepherds weren’t considered the most moral. In fact, they didn’t often go to church because sheep needed to be constantly tended, and they couldn’t even testify in court. Yet, they were the first to hear the good news of the Savior’s birth. This was no accident!
As you read your Bible, don’t let your preconceived notions of who God is interpret what you read. Instead, let scripture and the Holy Spirit guide you in the characteristics of God. Let God break out of His box in your life today and show you who He really is. Remember, His thoughts and ways are not ours (Isaiah 55:8).
