O Nosso Nome ou a Fama de Deus? # Our Name or God’s Fame?

Se olharmos para o povo de Babel fora do que a Bíblia nos diz, poderíamos dizer que foram um grande exemplo do que pode ser feito quando nos juntamos e trabalhamos como uma equipa. Eles estavam a construir uma enorme torre, a fim de permanecerem unidos e tornarem-se numa comunidade poderosa. No entanto, para Deus, isto não era bom. Se fossem capazes de usar o seu trabalho de equipa e construir esta torre, nada lhes seria impossível (Génesis 11:6). Porque é que Deus teve um problema com isto? Porque o povo de Babel receberia o reconhecimento pelo seu trabalho e não glorificaria a Deus pela Sua bênção sobre eles; se Deus os tivesse deixado a si próprios, nenhum deles O teriam encontrado.

Devemos perguntar-nos quantos ministérios ou igrejas com boas intenções caiem nesta armadilha. Podemos pensar que um grande edifício com o nosso nome vai dar a Deus a fama, mas maior nem sempre é melhor aos olhos de Deus. Através de toda a Bíblia Ele usou homens que tinham pouca experiência ou qualidades de liderança e guiou-os a serem os homens piedosos que as situações exigiam. A verdade é que todos lutamos com a tentação de confiar nas nossas obras, ou naqueles da nossa congregação, em vez de confiar em Deus. Lembre-se disto enquanto ministra aos outros. Deus pode usá-lo para fazer uma obra poderosa sem um grande número de seguidores ou uma igreja famosa; tem o Deus que criou os céus e a terra a trabalhar através de si.

If we looked at the people of Babel outside of what the Bible tells us, we might say they were a great example of what can be done when we come together and work as a team. They were creating a huge tower in order stay unified and become a powerful community. However, to God, this was not good. If they were able to use their teamwork and build this tower, nothing would have been impossible for them (Genesis 11:6). Why would God have had a problem with this? Because the people of Babel would take the recognition for their work and not glorify God for His blessing upon them; if God had left them to themselves, none of them would have found Him.

One must wonder how many ministries or churches with good intentions fall into this trap. We might think that a big building with our name on it will give God the fame, but bigger isn’t always better in God’s eyes. Throughout the Bible He used men who had little experience or leadership qualities and guided them to be the Godly men their situation required. The truth is that we all struggle with the temptation to rely on our works, or those of our congregation, instead of relying on God. Remember this as you minister to others. God can use you to do a mighty work without a large following or famous church; you have the God who created the heavens and the earth working through you.
