Uma Vida Aberta # An Open Life

Quando Paulo começou a igreja em Tessalónica o que deu à sua mensagem e ministério credibilidade foi o tipo de homens que ele e a sua equipe mostraram ser ao viverem entre os Tessalonicenses. Exibir Jesus acontece melhor quando "vivemos a vida" entre as pessoas. Há um cliché comum que tornar-se um seguidor de Jesus é tanto pelo exemplo como é pelo ensino, e há uma grande dose de verdade nisto.

Nada substitui a oportunidade de outros poderem ver como Jesus influencia a rotina real das nossas vidas: família, amigos, trabalho, lazer, provas e até mesmo as questões mundanas com que lidamos, como ir às compras ou cortar a relva. Isto requer duas coisas:

Que o Espírito Santo de Deus esteja a viver e activo nas nossas vidas.

Vivermos entre outras pessoas com intencionalidade.

Paulo partilha a profundidade desta intencionalidade em 1 Tessalonicenses 2:8: "desejávamos comunicar-vos não somente o evangelho de Deus, mas ainda as nossas próprias almas; porquanto vos tornastes muito amados de nós." Paulo importava-se o suficiente para abrir a vida aos Tessalonicenses. Paulo queria que eles vissem o "verdadeiro Paulo" e o impacto real das boas novas de Jesus na sua vida. Exibindo este nível de transparência e vulnerabilidade não é a norma na nossa cultura moderna, mas um passo necessário se queremos que as pessoas vejam a diferença que Jesus fez nas nossas vidas. Isto também implica ter relações "reais" com não-Cristãos e ser aberto e honesto com eles quando a vida fica difícil.

When Paul started the church in Thessalonica what gave his message and ministry credibility was the kind of men he and his team proved to be while living among the Thessalonians. Displaying Jesus happens best when we "do life" among people. There’s a common cliche that becoming a follower of Jesus is caught as much as it is taught, and there’s a great deal of truth to this.

Nothing replaces the opportunity for others to see how Jesus influences the real routine of our lives: family, friendships, work, recreation, trials, and even the mundane issues we deal with like shopping for groceries or mowing the grass. This requires two things:

For God’s Holy Spirit to be living and active in our lives.

For us to live among other people with intentionality.

Paul shares the depth of this intentionality in 1 Thessalonians 2:8: "we were ready to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves, because you had become very dear to us." Paul cared enough to open his life up to the Thessalonians. Paul wanted them to see the "real Paul" and the real impact of the good news of Jesus in his life. Displaying this level of transparency and vulnerability is not the norm in our modern culture, but a necessary step if we want people to see the difference Jesus has made in our lives. This also involves having "real" relationships with non-Christians and being open and honest with them when life gets messy.
