Já ouviste falar de Lídia? Não é o nome mais conhecido da Bíblia, mas Lídia foi uma tremenda mulher de fé e influência. Numa época em que as mulheres de carreira eram raras, Lídia era uma mulher de negócios respeitada e bem-sucedida. Não só isso, mas Lídia foi a primeira crente Europeia e anfitriã da primeira igreja Europeia.
Lídia dá um poderoso exemplo que todos podemos aprender hoje, ela aproveitava os seus recursos e influência para a glória de Deus. Um transplante para a região do trabalho, Lídia era o equivalente a um representante da manufactura que se especializou em tecido de cor púrpura. O tecido de cor púrpura era popular entre a elite, a classe aristocrática. Isto significava que Lídia estava familiarizada com a alta sociedade e claramente tinha muito sucesso. Paulo conheceu Lídia enquanto ela orava com um grupo de mulheres. Embora não fosse judia, Lídia procurava Deus.
Foi quando Paulo começou a partilhar as boas novas do Evangelho, de que Jesus pagou o preço pelos nossos pecados, morreu na cruz e ressurgiu depois de três dias. Enquanto Lídia ouvia, Deus abriu o seu coração, convencendo-a da verdade e, naquele momento, entregou a sua vida a Deus com fé. Mas a transformação dela não terminou aqui; toda a família seguiu o seu exemplo e tornou-se crente, formando a primeira igreja da região em sua casa.
Então, o que é que podemos aprender com Lídia, esta mulher de carreira bem sucedida e influente? Lídia utilizou a sua influência e sucesso para Deus. Ela usou os seus dons e talentos para a glória de Deus, influenciando as vidas daqueles à sua volta. E tu? Como é que usas os teus recursos e influência? Qual é a tua motivação para o teu trabalho? Pede a Deus que te mostre como podes usar os teus recursos e influência para o Seu reino.

Have you heard of Lydia? She’s not the most well-known name in the Bible, yet Lydia was a tremendous woman of faith and influence. At a time when career women were rare, Lydia was a respected and successful business woman. Not only that, but Lydia was the first European believer and host of the first European church.
Lydia sets a powerful example that we can all learn from today of leveraging her resources and influence for God’s glory. A transplant to the region for work, Lydia was the equivalent of a manufacture’s rep who specialized in purple fabric. Purple fabric was popular with the elite, the aristocratic class. This meant that Lydia was familiar with high society and was clearly very successful. Paul first met Lydia while she was praying with a group of women. Although not Jewish, Lydia was searching for God.
That’s when Paul began sharing the good news of the Gospel, that Jesus paid the penalty for our sins, dying on the cross and rising again in three days. As Lydia listened, God opened up her heart, convicting her of the truth and in that moment, she gave her life to God in faith. But her transformation didn’t end there; her entire household followed her example and became believers, forming the region’s first church in her home.
So what can we learn from Lydia, this successful and influential career woman? Lydia leveraged her influence and success for God. She used her gifts and talents for God’s glory, impacting the lives of those around her. So what about you? How do you use your resources and influence? What is your motivation for your work? Ask God to show you how you can use your resources and influence for His kingdom.
