Quando o mundo pensa em grandeza, ele tende a pensar naqueles que têm talento extraordinário combinado com a incrível energia para ter sucesso, levando-os a experimentar o empreendimento e desempenho extraordinário. Mas a Palavra de Deus é muito clara quando diz que Deus avalia a grandeza de uma perspectiva muito diferente. E esta perspectiva em que Deus avalia a grandeza resume-se a uma palavra que é serviço. O serviço no mundo e o serviço no corpo de Cristo é como se exemplifica o que é grandeza no reino de Deus.
Era a Páscoa. Jesus havia se reunido com os Seus discípulos, os homens com os quais Ele queria estar, os homens em quem Ele havia derramado a vida nos últimos três anos. No entanto, Ele estava incrivelmente sobrecarregado, porque sabia o que estava para vir, a Sua morte na cruz. No meio do jantar, Jesus levantou-se da mesa. Ele tirou o Seu manto exterior. Ele tomou uma toalha e coloca-a à Sua volta, como um escravo faria. E então Ele tomou uma bacia de água e começou a lavar os pés dos discípulos. Contudo, este não era apenas o trabalho de um escravo. Era o trabalho de um escravo gentio! Os homens ficaram surpreendidos. Eles não sabiam como responder.
Pedro argumentou com Ele: "Nunca lavarás os meus pés!" Como poderia deixar que o seu Senhor lavasse os seus pés? No entanto, Jesus respondeu-lhe: "Se eu não te lavar, não tens parte Comigo." Isto é forte. Isto é intenso. Disso temos a certeza. Muito mais foi dito naquela sala, mas este incidente particular é para mostrar-nos a importância de ter o coração de um servo. Porque aqui, Jesus, o Salvador do mundo, de toda a humanidade, que reinará para sempre à direita de Deus Pai, inclina-se ao nível de um servo e lava os pés sujos e encardidos dos Seus discípulos amados. Na realidade, Jesus é o ÚNICO homem cuja importância neste universo é tão poderosa que Ele poderia facilmente ter ignorado este gesto de amor. Mas Ele não o fez. E tu? Tens um coração de servo? Como é que estás quando se trata do exemplo de Jesus?

When the world thinks of greatness, it tends to think of those that have extraordinary talent combined with the incredible drive to succeed, leading them to experience extraordinary accomplishment and achievement. But the Word of God is very clear that God evaluates greatness from a very different perspective. And that perspective in which God evaluates greatness comes down to one word and that is service. Service in the world and service in the body of Christ is how it exemplifies what greatness is in the kingdom of God.
It was the Passover. Jesus had gathered with His disciples, the men He wanted to be with, the men He had poured life into over the last three years. Yet, He was incredibly burdened, because He knew what was coming, His death on the cross. In the middle of this dinner, Jesus gets up from the table. He takes off His outer robe. He takes a towel and puts it around Him, like a slave would do. And then He took a basin of water and He began to wash the disciples feet. Now, this was not just the job of a slave. It was the job of a Gentile slave! The men were stunned. They didn’t know how to respond.
Peter argued with Him, "Never shall You wash my feet!" How could he let his Lord wash his feet? Yet, Jesus answered him, "If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me." That’s stout. That’s strong. No arguing about it. A lot more was discussed in that room, but this particular incident is to show us the importance of having the heart of a servant. Because here, Jesus, the Savior of the world, of all mankind, who will reign forever and ever at the right hand of God the Father, stoops to the level of a servant and washes the dirty, grimy feet of His beloved disciples. In reality, Jesus is the ONLY man whose importance in this universe is so mighty that He could easily have skipped this gesture of love. But He didn’t. What about you? Do you have a servant’s heart? How are you doing when it comes to the example of Jesus?
