Amas-Me? # Do You Love Me?

Pedro decidiu que não era digno e não poderia ser mais útil ao mundo, então voltou ao início depois da ressurreição de Jesus. Ele entrou no seu pequeno barco, remou para o mar e pescou toda a noite em vão.

De manhã, o Cristo ressuscitado, o verdadeiro Amante das nossas almas que vê o que realmente somos, disse-lhe para lançar a sua rede do outro lado do barco. Quando ele obedeceu, mais uma vez ele ergueu aquela rede familiar de peixes e mais uma vez este homem viu-se diante do Deus Vivo, quebrado como se fosse a primeira vez.

Será que Cristo esperou por ele à beira mar para puni-lo?

Não.

Ele cozinhou-lhe um pequeno-almoço sobre o fogo. Sempre me perguntei quão saboroso deveria estar e Ele falou as palavras mais sensíveis que a alma deste homem já ouviu:

"Amas-Me... Amas-Me... Amas-Me?"

Três vezes, uma para cada rejeição.

Este é o carácter do meu Senhor. Como com Pedro aconteceu o mesmo centenas de anos antes com outro homem quebrado, David nos Salmos. E o mesmo hoje, para ti e eu e qualquer um que esteja a afundar sob o peso e tensão de nós mesmos.

"Porque ele Me ama", diz o Senhor: "Eu vou resgatá-lo." (Salmo 91:14)

Peter decided he wasn’t worthy and couldn’t be useful any longer to the world, so he went back to the beginning after the resurrection of Jesus. He got in his little boat, rowed out into the sea, and fished the night away in vain.

In the morning, the resurrected Christ, the true Lover of our souls who sees us for what we really are, told him to cast his net on the other side of the boat. When he obeyed, once again writhed that familiar haul of fish, and once again this man found himself before the Living God, broken as if for the very first time.

Did Christ wait for him along the shore to punish him?

No.

He cooked him some breakfast over the fire. I’ve always wondered how tasty it must have been and He spoke the most tender words this man’s soul ever heard:

"Do you love Me… Do you love Me… Do you love Me?"

Three times, one for every rejection.

That is the character of my Lord. The same for Peter as it was hundreds of years before for another broken man, David in the Psalms. And the same today, for you and me and anyone sinking under the weight and strain of ourselves.

"Because he loves Me," says the Lord, "I will rescue him." (Psalms 91:14)
