Resolução # Resolution

No final de um mês de Dezembro, um director de uma escola primária disse aos seus professores:

"Vamos todos escrever as nossas resoluções para o Ano Novo sobre como podemos ser melhores professores, e eu irei colocá-las no quadro de anúncios. Desta forma, podemos apoiar-nos mutuamente nos nossos esforços para mantermos estas resoluções."

Os professores concordaram e, quando as resoluções foram publicadas, todos se aglomeraram à volta do quadro para lê-las.

Uma das jovens professoras do grupo entrou de repente num acesso de raiva. Disse ela: "Ele não afixou a minha resolução. Foi uma das primeiras a ser entregue. Ele não se preocupa comigo. Isto só mostra como é que são as coisas por aqui." E assim continuou a murmurar e a discursar enfurecida.

O director, que ouviu isto do seu gabinete, ficou mortificado. Ele não teve a intenção de excluir a sua resolução. Rapidamente vasculhando através dos papéis na sua mesa, encontrou -a e foi imediatamente ao quadro e colocou-a.

A resolução dizia: "Resolvo não deixar mais que coisas pequenas me chateiem."

Late one December, an elementary school principal said to his teachers:

"Let's all write our New Year's Resolutions about how we can be better teachers, and I'll put them on the staff bulletin board. In that way, we can be mutually supportive in our efforts to keep those resolutions."

The teachers agreed, and when the resolutions were posted, they all crowded around the bulletin board to read them.

One of the young teachers in the group suddenly went into a fit of anger. She said, "He didn't put up my resolution. It was one of the first ones in. He doesn't care about me. That just shows what it's like around here." On and on she ranted and raved.

The principal, who overheard this from his office, was mortified. He hadn't meant to exclude her resolution. Quickly rummaging through the papers on his desk, he found it and immediately went to the bulletin board and tacked it up.

The resolution read: "I resolve not to let little things upset me anymore."

Aquietai-vos # Be Still

Duas das palavras mais difíceis de ouvir quando somos criança são “fica quieto.” Tudo em nós quer permanecer em movimento físico, mental, emocional e até espiritual. Estas duas palavras podem ser também desafiadoras para nós, como adultos, especialmente no meio dos detalhes aparentemente imediatos e urgentes da vida. Estas palavras, “fica quieto”, literalmente significam deixar cair, libertar, relaxar. Podem até estar a pensar: “Como posso fazer isso?”. Mesmo quando colocamos de lado tempo para ler a nossa Bíblia de manhã/noite, fazemo-lo a correr marcando essa actividade como tendo sido realizada para esse dia.

-Quando foi a última vez que libertou as questões prementes da sua vida a Deus?
-Quando foi a última vez que relaxou na presença de Deus?
-Quando foi a última vez que estava suficientemente quieto para ouvir o sussurro de Deus?
-O que aconteceria se tivesse uma hora para “ficar quieto?”
-E se fosse 30 minutos?
-E se fosse 5 minutos?

Pode estar a pensar, eu nem sei ficar quieto por 5 minutos. É exactamente por isso que precisa de o fazer.
Aqui está o desafio simples para hoje: tomar os próximos 5 minutos...
para deixar cair o imediato e urgente.
para libertar e relaxar.
para ficar quieto e ficar em silêncio.

Two of the most difficult words to hear as a child are “be still.” Everything in us wants to stay in motion physically, mentally, emotionally, and even spiritually. These two words can be equally challenging for us as adults especially in the midst of the seemingly immediate and urgent details of life. These words, “be still,” literally mean to let drop, to release, to relax. You might even be thinking, “How do I do that?”. Even when we put time aside to read our Bible in the morning/evening, we rush through it and check off that activity for the day.

-When is the last time you released the pressing issues in your life to God?
-When is the last time you relaxed in the presence of God?
-When is the last time you were quiet enough to hear the whisper of God?
-What would happen if you had one hour to “be still?”
-What about 30 minutes?
-What about 5 minutes?

You may be thinking, I don’t even know how to be still for 5 minutes. That’s exactly why you need to do it.
Here’s the simple challenge for today: take the next 5 minutes…
to let the immediate and urgent drop.
to release and relax.
to be still and to be quiet.
to focus on the greatness of God.

Be still and know that I am God.

Descansem na justiça de Jesus hoje, e lembrem-se que é o esforço de Cristo que nos redimiu, não o nosso.

In our world each action, if valuable, must be performed in a manner incurring more benefit than cost. If an action costs more than it benefits, one is moving backwards. No fulfillment is resultant of regression, and no gain is typified by a heavier loss. This is how our markets behave, these are the fundamental truths of an efficient economy. This is the earthly economy. But what of heaven’s economy? What of the spiritual currencies by which eternal transactions are made? Should we operate according to the same principles of benefit and cost for attaining salvation? Do we ever try?

In Christ, our way has been paid. Our eternal life has been secured through the substitutional death of Jesus and His payment for our sin. Our evil was laid upon Him, the just suffering for the unjust (1 Peter 3:18), and in turn we are counted as justified before the Almighty.

On this earth we labor, toil, and strive for success. Our greatest efforts can result in all the wealth and fame this world has to offer. But in the economy of heaven there is but one effort that will ever be counted as sufficient: perfection. Jesus is the only one who has or will ever measure up to God’s standard, therefore our effort and striving is not what ultimately pleases God, but Jesus’ righteousness mercifully counted to us.

Rest in Jesus’ righteousness today, and remember that it is Christ’s effort which has redeemed you, not your own.

Eu sempre fui alguém que tem muita coisa a acontecer, sou assim. Eu gosto de viver a vida e por isso atiro-me às coisas e isso traz tensão e stress. E, durante grande parte da minha vida fui tomado pelo stress, era como um subproduto natural da vida que eu escolhi levar.

E enquanto hoje em dia tento ter um pouco mais de equilíbrio na vida ... há outra coisa. Descobri que posso ter a tensão sem o stress.

Soa estranho, mas quando olho para Jesus e vejo o que Ele passou por mim, aquele amor incrível traz paz ao meu coração que as palavras não podem descrever.

Tension and stress is something we all live through from time to time, and to be fair, some stress is not a bad thing.

But many of us live hectic lives, pressure on every side and sometimes it feels like just living life is … well, squeezing the life out of us.

Now I've always been someone who has a lot going on, it's just me. I love living life and so I throw myself into things and that brings tension and stress. And for much of my life I was overcome by stress, it was like a natural by-product of the life I chose to lead.

And whilst these days I try to get a bit more balance into life … there's something else. I've discovered that I can have the tension without the stress.

Sounds odd, but when I look at Jesus and see what He went through for me, that incredible love brings a peace to my heart that words just can't describe.
