Nem Mesmo Um # Not Even One

É relativamente fácil reconhecermos o pecado uns nos outros. É muito mais difícil reconhecê-lo em nós mesmos. No entanto, Paulo escreve: "nenhum de nós é justo, nem mesmo um." Tendemos a pensar em nós mesmos como a excepção, mas quando se trata de pecado, não há excepções. Até que entendamos a santidade de Deus, no entanto, é quase impossível para nós vermos claramente o nosso próprio pecado.

Anos atrás, o London Times publicou um artigo incentivando os seus leitores a responder à pergunta: "O que há de errado com o mundo?" Tenho a certeza de que o editor deve ter lido a seguinte resposta mais de uma vez antes de sua profunda verdade se encaixar:

"Prezado Senhor:

Em resposta à sua pergunta, 'O que há de errado com o mundo?'

Eu sou.

Sinceramente.'"

Nós SOMOS o que está errado com o mundo! O padrão de Deus é a justiça absoluta e quando começamos a ver a Sua santidade, entendemos quão longe estamos. Não importa quão habilidosos possamos ser em esconder os nossos pecados, não podemos fazê-los desaparecer. Só Deus é capaz de salvar-nos. Ele escolheu salvar-nos através do Seu filho. É por isso que Jesus veio e morreu e ressuscitou, para pagar pelos nossos pecados na cruz e para reivindicar a Sua vitória sobre o pecado e a morte através da Sua ressurreição.

O nosso pecado é o problema. Jesus Cristo é a solução. É por isso que esta mensagem é chamada Boa Notícia!

It is relatively easy for us to recognize sin in one another. It is much more difficult to recognize it in ourselves. Yet Paul writes, "none of us is righteous, not even one." We tend to think of ourselves as the exception, but when it comes to sin, there are no exceptions. Until we understand the holiness of God, however, it is almost impossible for us to clearly see our own sin.

Years ago, the London Times ran an article encouraging its readers to respond to the question, "What is wrong with the world?" I am sure the editor must have read the following reply more than once before its profound truth sunk in:

"Dear Sir:

In response to your question, ‘What is wrong with the world?’

I am.

Yours truly."

We ARE what is wrong with the world! God’s standard is absolute righteousness, and when we begin to see His holiness, we understand how short we fall. No matter how skilled we may be at hiding our sins, we cannot make them disappear. Only God is able to save us. He has chosen to save us through His son. This is why Jesus came and died and rose again, to pay for our sins on the cross and to claim His victory over sin and death through His resurrection.

Our sin is the problem. Jesus Christ is the solution. That is why this message is called Good News!
