É A Tua Escolha # It's Your Choice

Há muitas escolhas importantes na vida. Uma escolha que muitos enfrentaram ou terão que enfrentar é se vão ou não para a faculdade e, se o fizerem, para onde devem ir? Porque para a faculdade onde vais certamente vai definir um rumo para o futuro da tua vida. Outra grande decisão é o casamento, se vais te casar, com quem vais te casar? Porque com quem te casares vai influenciar muito o resto da tua vida. E depois há a tua carreira, onde escolhes focar os teus interesses, os teus talentos e as tuas habilidades? Estas e muitas mais são escolhas que enfrentarás na tua vida.

Mas Jesus diz-nos que a nossa maior escolha é entre Deus e o dinheiro. O quê? Isto pode chocar-te porque podes pensar que há escolhas maiores a fazer do que o dinheiro. No entanto, Jesus sabe que, para a maioria de nós, a maior luta quando se trata de ter Cristo como Senhor é onde depositar a nossa confiança na escolha entre Deus e o dinheiro. É isto que Jesus quer dizer quando diz: "Ninguém pode servir a dois senhores."

Agora, quando Jesus fez esta declaração, Ele também estava a dizer-nos que todos temos um senhor. Eu percebo que muitas pessoas acham esta afirmação terrível e podem responder: "Eu não tenho 'pessoa' ou 'coisa' como o meu senhor. Eu sou o capitão da minha alma!" Bem, sinto muito por estourar a tua bolha, mas Jesus diz-nos que todos nós temos um senhor.

Então, quem ou o quê é o nosso "senhor"? O nosso senhor é o que domina os nossos pensamentos. O nosso senhor é o que for prioritário nas nossas vidas. O nosso senhor é onde depositamos a nossa confiança. O nosso senhor é onde procuramos a nossa máxima segurança. Agora, às vezes, o nosso senhor pode ser algo que é considerado "bom", como as nossas famílias, os nossos cônjuges, os nossos filhos ou os nossos empregos. Pode até ser a igreja ou o serviço comunitário. O facto é que, se qualquer uma destas coisas se torna a prioridade das nossas vidas, não é apenas o nosso senhor, é idolatria e transgride o primeiro e o segundo mandamentos de colocar algo, qualquer coisa, diante do próprio Senhor.

Então, o que é para ti? Onde depositas a tua confiança? Onde procuras segurança? O dinheiro irá desapontar-nos e deixar-nos vazios. Deus dar-nos-á significado e satisfação.

There are a lot of big choices in life. One choice that many have faced or will face is whether or not to go to college and if you do, where should you go? Because where you go to college is certainly going to set a course for the future of your life. Another big decision is marriage, if you’re going to get married, whom are you going to marry? Because whomever you marry is going to greatly influence the rest of your life. And then there is your career, where do you choose to focus your interests, your talents, and your abilities? These and so many more are choices you will be facing in your lifetime.

But Jesus tells us is that our biggest choice is between God and money. What? That may shock you because you may think there are bigger choices to make than money. Yet, Jesus knows that, for most of us, the major struggle when it comes to having Christ as Lord, is where to put our trust in choosing between God and money. This is what Jesus means when He says, "No one can serve two masters."

Now, when Jesus made that statement, He was also telling us that we all have a master. I realize that many people find that statement appalling and might respond, "I have no 'person' or 'thing' as my master. I am the captain of my soul!" Well, I’m sorry to burst your bubble, but Jesus tells us that we all have a master.

So, who or what is our "master"? Our master is what dominates our thoughts. Our master is whatever takes priority in our lives. Our master is where we put our trust. Our master is where we look for our ultimate security. Now, sometimes our master can be something that is considered "good", like our families, our spouses, our children, or our jobs. It can even be church, or community service. The fact is if any one of these things becomes the priority of our lives, it is not only our master, it is idolatry and breaks the first and second commandments of putting something, anything, before the Lord Himself.

So, what is it for you? Where do you put your trust? Where do you look for security? Money will disappoint and leave us empty. God will give us meaning and fulfillment.
