Como é que lidas quando estás desapontado com os resultados da oração? Já não tiveram todos um resultado desconcertante ou decepcionante, mesmo com a oração mais fervorosa ou cheia de fé? Às vezes pensamos que temos que deslizar estas pequenas decepções para debaixo do tapete e não falar sobre elas. Não queremos admitir que [muitos de nós acreditamos] Deus não tem todas as respostas.
A verdade é que Deus é sempre fiel e a Sua Palavra é 100% precisa sempre. Salmos 33:4 lembra-nos: "Porque a palavra do Senhor é recta, e todas as Suas obras são fiéis." Portanto, ficamos confusos naqueles momentos em que a nossa experiência não parece corresponder a esta verdade.
Encontrarás poucas discussões de pessoas sobre a importância da oração. A maioria das pessoas ora. Todos precisam. Mas a realidade é que a oração é muitas vezes decepcionante para nós. Não conseguimos os resultados que desejamos. Deixa-me partilhar contigo o porquê: É encontrado na Bíblia, no livro de Tiago. "Quando pedem, não recebem, pois pedem por motivos errados."
A oração não é tanto pedir a Deus o que queremos. É sobre descobrir o que Ele quer para nós e encontrar forças para isso. As orações egoístas decepcionam. Orações para conhecer a Deus, para encontrar força e fazer a vontade Dele, trazem resultados tremendos, às vezes até resultados sobrenaturais. Esse tipo de oração é poderosa, porque ligas-te à fonte suprema de energia, o Deus do universo.
Como está a tua vida de oração? É gratificante ou decepcionante? Lembra-te de verificar os teus motivos, pois o teu coração é a chave. Porque não tirar um momento agora e fala com Deus apenas para o propósito de buscar a vontade Dele. Encontrarás a tua vida de oração mais gratificante e poderosa.

How do you handle it when you are disappointed in the results of prayer? Hasn’t everyone had some puzzling or disappointing outcome even with the most fervent or faith-filled prayer? Sometimes we think we have to slide those little disappointments under the rug and not talk about them. We don’t want to admit that [many of us believe] God doesn’t have all the answers.
The truth is that God is always faithful and His Word is 100% accurate every single time. Psalm 33:4 reminds us; "For the word of the Lord is upright; and all His work is done in faithfulness." We, therefore, are dumbfounded in those times where our experience does not seem to match that truth.
You’ll find little argument from people about the importance of prayer. Most people pray. Everyone needs it. But the reality is, prayer is often disappointing to us. We don’t get the results we desire. Let me share with you why: It’s found in the Bible, in the book of James. "When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives."
Prayer is not so much about asking God for what we want. It’s about discovering what He wants for us and finding the strength to do it. Selfish prayers disappoint. Prayers to get to know God, to find strength and to do His will, bring tremendous results, sometimes even supernatural results. This kind of praying is powerful, because you get plugged into the ultimate power source, the God of the universe.
How is your prayer life? Is it fulfilling or disappointing? Remember to check your motives, for your heart is the key. Why don’t you take a moment right now and talk with God, just for the purpose of seeking His will. You’ll find your prayer life to be more fulfilling and powerful.

Há muitas escolhas importantes na vida. Uma escolha que muitos enfrentaram ou terão que enfrentar é se vão ou não para a faculdade e, se o fizerem, para onde devem ir? Porque para a faculdade onde vais certamente vai definir um rumo para o futuro da tua vida. Outra grande decisão é o casamento, se vais te casar, com quem vais te casar? Porque com quem te casares vai influenciar muito o resto da tua vida. E depois há a tua carreira, onde escolhes focar os teus interesses, os teus talentos e as tuas habilidades? Estas e muitas mais são escolhas que enfrentarás na tua vida.
Mas Jesus diz-nos que a nossa maior escolha é entre Deus e o dinheiro. O quê? Isto pode chocar-te porque podes pensar que há escolhas maiores a fazer do que o dinheiro. No entanto, Jesus sabe que, para a maioria de nós, a maior luta quando se trata de ter Cristo como Senhor é onde depositar a nossa confiança na escolha entre Deus e o dinheiro. É isto que Jesus quer dizer quando diz: "Ninguém pode servir a dois senhores."
Agora, quando Jesus fez esta declaração, Ele também estava a dizer-nos que todos temos um senhor. Eu percebo que muitas pessoas acham esta afirmação terrível e podem responder: "Eu não tenho 'pessoa' ou 'coisa' como o meu senhor. Eu sou o capitão da minha alma!" Bem, sinto muito por estourar a tua bolha, mas Jesus diz-nos que todos nós temos um senhor.
Então, quem ou o quê é o nosso "senhor"? O nosso senhor é o que domina os nossos pensamentos. O nosso senhor é o que for prioritário nas nossas vidas. O nosso senhor é onde depositamos a nossa confiança. O nosso senhor é onde procuramos a nossa máxima segurança. Agora, às vezes, o nosso senhor pode ser algo que é considerado "bom", como as nossas famílias, os nossos cônjuges, os nossos filhos ou os nossos empregos. Pode até ser a igreja ou o serviço comunitário. O facto é que, se qualquer uma destas coisas se torna a prioridade das nossas vidas, não é apenas o nosso senhor, é idolatria e transgride o primeiro e o segundo mandamentos de colocar algo, qualquer coisa, diante do próprio Senhor.
Então, o que é para ti? Onde depositas a tua confiança? Onde procuras segurança? O dinheiro irá desapontar-nos e deixar-nos vazios. Deus dar-nos-á significado e satisfação.

There are a lot of big choices in life. One choice that many have faced or will face is whether or not to go to college and if you do, where should you go? Because where you go to college is certainly going to set a course for the future of your life. Another big decision is marriage, if you’re going to get married, whom are you going to marry? Because whomever you marry is going to greatly influence the rest of your life. And then there is your career, where do you choose to focus your interests, your talents, and your abilities? These and so many more are choices you will be facing in your lifetime.
But Jesus tells us is that our biggest choice is between God and money. What? That may shock you because you may think there are bigger choices to make than money. Yet, Jesus knows that, for most of us, the major struggle when it comes to having Christ as Lord, is where to put our trust in choosing between God and money. This is what Jesus means when He says, "No one can serve two masters."
Now, when Jesus made that statement, He was also telling us that we all have a master. I realize that many people find that statement appalling and might respond, "I have no 'person' or 'thing' as my master. I am the captain of my soul!" Well, I’m sorry to burst your bubble, but Jesus tells us that we all have a master.
So, who or what is our "master"? Our master is what dominates our thoughts. Our master is whatever takes priority in our lives. Our master is where we put our trust. Our master is where we look for our ultimate security. Now, sometimes our master can be something that is considered "good", like our families, our spouses, our children, or our jobs. It can even be church, or community service. The fact is if any one of these things becomes the priority of our lives, it is not only our master, it is idolatry and breaks the first and second commandments of putting something, anything, before the Lord Himself.
So, what is it for you? Where do you put your trust? Where do you look for security? Money will disappoint and leave us empty. God will give us meaning and fulfillment.

É relativamente fácil reconhecermos o pecado uns nos outros. É muito mais difícil reconhecê-lo em nós mesmos. No entanto, Paulo escreve: "nenhum de nós é justo, nem mesmo um." Tendemos a pensar em nós mesmos como a excepção, mas quando se trata de pecado, não há excepções. Até que entendamos a santidade de Deus, no entanto, é quase impossível para nós vermos claramente o nosso próprio pecado.
Anos atrás, o London Times publicou um artigo incentivando os seus leitores a responder à pergunta: "O que há de errado com o mundo?" Tenho a certeza de que o editor deve ter lido a seguinte resposta mais de uma vez antes de sua profunda verdade se encaixar:

Nós SOMOS o que está errado com o mundo! O padrão de Deus é a justiça absoluta e quando começamos a ver a Sua santidade, entendemos quão longe estamos. Não importa quão habilidosos possamos ser em esconder os nossos pecados, não podemos fazê-los desaparecer. Só Deus é capaz de salvar-nos. Ele escolheu salvar-nos através do Seu filho. É por isso que Jesus veio e morreu e ressuscitou, para pagar pelos nossos pecados na cruz e para reivindicar a Sua vitória sobre o pecado e a morte através da Sua ressurreição.
O nosso pecado é o problema. Jesus Cristo é a solução. É por isso que esta mensagem é chamada Boa Notícia!

It is relatively easy for us to recognize sin in one another. It is much more difficult to recognize it in ourselves. Yet Paul writes, "none of us is righteous, not even one." We tend to think of ourselves as the exception, but when it comes to sin, there are no exceptions. Until we understand the holiness of God, however, it is almost impossible for us to clearly see our own sin.
Years ago, the London Times ran an article encouraging its readers to respond to the question, "What is wrong with the world?" I am sure the editor must have read the following reply more than once before its profound truth sunk in:
"Dear Sir:
In response to your question, ‘What is wrong with the world?’
I am.
Yours truly."
We ARE what is wrong with the world! God’s standard is absolute righteousness, and when we begin to see His holiness, we understand how short we fall. No matter how skilled we may be at hiding our sins, we cannot make them disappear. Only God is able to save us. He has chosen to save us through His son. This is why Jesus came and died and rose again, to pay for our sins on the cross and to claim His victory over sin and death through His resurrection.
Our sin is the problem. Jesus Christ is the solution. That is why this message is called Good News!

Uma das definições do dicionário Merriam Webster de ser paciente é: "firme apesar de oposição, dificuldade ou adversidade". Ser paciente é difícil porque, como humanos, temos a tendência de querer o que queremos naquele momento em particular. Infelizmente, parece que a vida é um teste de paciência.
Quem é que não luta com filas, se é tráfego ou à espera num supermercado? Algumas pessoas preferem conduzir cinco quilómetros fora do caminho do que ficar parado no trânsito. Outras pessoas ficam impacientes quando enfrentam um prazo e são interrompidas, ou quando alguém diz que vai fazer algo e não é feito.
Onde é que lutas com a paciência? Já oraste: "Senhor, dá-me um pouco de paciência agora!" Deixa-me sugerir algumas maneiras práticas de aprender a ter paciência:
1. Respira e ora por autocontrolo.
2. Quando as pessoas te irritam, se possível, recua por um momento. Tira um tempo para recuar e controlar as tuas emoções.
3. Enfrenta justamente e procura ouvir, entender e, quando necessário, perdoar.
4. Lembra-te, o maior motivo para a paciência é lembrar a paciência de Deus connosco.
A paciência é um bem precioso, pois é uma maneira poderosa de conquistar o respeito dos outros e transformar um inimigo potencial num amigo.

One of the Merriam Webster definitions of being patient is: "steadfast despite opposition, difficulty, or adversity". Being patient is hard because as humans, we have a tendency to want what we want at that particular moment. Unfortunately, it seems that life is a test of patience.
Who doesn't struggle with lines, whether it’s traffic, or waiting at a supermarket? Some people rather drive five miles out of the way than sit still in traffic. Other people get impatient when facing a deadline and get interrupted, or when someone says they’ll do something and it doesn’t get done.
Where do you struggle with patience? Do you ever pray, "Lord, give me some patience, now!" Let me suggest a few practical ways to learn patience:
1. Take a breath and pray for self-control.
2. When people anger you, if possible, retreat for a moment. Take time to back off and get control of your emotions.
3. Confront fairly, and seek to listen, understand, and where needed, forgive.
4. Remember, the greatest motive for patience is remembering God’s patience with us.
Patience is a precious commodity, for it’s a powerful way to win the respect of others and turn a potential enemy into a friend.
