Jesus resumiu tudo numa frase: "Ama Deus e ama as pessoas". Por outras palavras, o maior mandamento de acordo com Jesus é todo sobre o amor. Se amamos a Deus em primeiro lugar, então, desse amor, devemos amar os outros. Parece bastante simples, até começarmos a tentar vivê-lo. Quando começamos a olhar para a realidade de como devemos amar Deus e às pessoas versus como isto realmente acontece no dia a dia, provavelmente sentir-nos-emos um pouco culpados e condenados de todas as vezes em que ficamos aquém do esperado.
Felizmente, Jesus sabe que nós não somos capazes de superar o nosso egoísmo natural por conta própria, então Ele enviou-nos um ajudante: O Espírito Santo. Quando uma pessoa vem a conhecer Deus através da pessoa de Jesus Cristo, recebemos o dom do Espírito Santo. Pensa em como um amigo, conselheiro ou até mesmo uma enfermeira apoia, encoraja e caminha contigo durante uma período difícil. O Espírito Santo faz a mesma coisa, ajudando-nos a seguir e a obedecer aos mandamentos de Deus.
O que é que o Espírito Santo faz exactamente? O Espírito Santo começa a transformar-nos de dentro para fora, reflectindo o espírito e o carácter de Cristo. É o Espírito Santo que transforma a nossa perspectiva do "deve" a "querer" quando se trata de obedecer à Palavra de Deus, e isto faz toda a diferença em como vivemos o amor de Deus. Se és um seguidor de Jesus, pede a Deus um novo derramamento do Espírito Santo para viver em Cristo hoje. Se não conheces Jesus, pede ao Espírito Santo que te dê uma necessidade e convicção de confiar em Jesus como o teu Salvador e Senhor.

Jesus summed it all up in one phrase: "Love God and love people". In other words, the greatest commandment according to Jesus is all about love. If we love God first and foremost, then out of that love we should love others. It sounds simple enough, until we start attempting to live it out. When we begin to look at the reality of how we should love God and people versus how it actually plays out day to day, we’ll probably feel a little guilty and convicted of all the times we’ve fallen short.
Thankfully, Jesus knows that we aren’t capable of overcoming our natural selfishness on our own, so He sent us a helper: The Holy Spirit. When a person comes to know God through the person of Jesus Christ, we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Think of how a friend, counselor or even a nurse supports, encourages and walks with you through a tough season. The Holy Spirit does the same thing by helping us follow and obey God’s commands.
What does the Holy Spirit do, exactly? The Holy Spirit begins to transform us from the inside out into reflecting the spirit and character of Christ. It’s the Holy Spirit that transforms our perspective from "ought to" to "want to" when it comes to obeying God’s Word, and that makes all the difference in how we live out God’s love. If you’re a follower of Jesus, ask God for a fresh filling of the Holy Spirit to live in Christ today. If you don’t know Jesus, may you ask the Holy Spirit to give you a need and conviction to trust in Jesus as your Savior and Lord.
