Não é surpresa que as conversas de fé sejam diferentes dependendo do contexto e do público. Pensa nisto. A maneira que um Cristão discute a fé com um pianista chinês e um operário será diferente. E partilhar com um Imã Muçulmano ou um playboy do cinema? Imagina uma discussão de fé com um jovem do ensino secundário versos uma feminista? Pensa nas vastas diferenças de lutas, preocupações e visões do mundo. Cada conversa deve parecer e soar diferente. Por esta razão, os Cristãos são chamados a adoptar abordagens diferentes para partilhar o Evangelho de Jesus Cristo com pessoas diferentes.
O apóstolo Paulo fala sobre este conceito em 1 Coríntios. Paulo explicou a sua disposição de deixar de lado as suas preferências pessoais e prioridades pessoais para demonstrar interesse pela outra pessoa. Porquê? Para que possa mostrar-lhes Cristo, de uma maneira que entendam e que seja significativo para eles. É o máximo em altruísmo encontrar alguém onde está, com genuíno cuidado e respeito, na esperança de ajudá-lo a conhecer Jesus.
E tu? Estás disposto a encontrar pessoas onde elas estão para partilhar a verdade do Evangelho? Deveríamos estar, porque Jesus faz o mesmo por cada um de nós. Ele encontra-nos no nosso pecado, na nossa vergonha e no nosso desespero e oferece-nos uma nova vida por meio Dele. Lembras-te quem primeiro partilhou Jesus contigo? Então, porque é que não estás a partilhar com outras pessoas? É o maior presente que podes dar-lhes!

It’s no surprise that faith conversations will be different depending on both context and audience. Think about it. The way that a Christian discusses faith with a Chinese concert pianist and a blue-collar worker will be different. What about sharing with a Muslim Imam or a Hollywood playboy? Imagine a faith discussion with a middle school boy verses a feminist? Think about the vast differences in struggles, concerns and world views. Each conversation must look and sound different. For this reason, Christians are called to take different approaches to sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with different people.
The apostle Paul talks about this concept in 1 Corinthians. Paul explained his willingness to put aside his own personal preferences and personal priorities in order to show interest in another person. Why? So that he might show them Christ, in a way that they understand and that’s meaningful to them. It’s the ultimate in unselfishness to meet someone where they are, with genuine care and respect, in hopes of helping them come to know Jesus.
What about you? Are you willing to meet people where they are in order to share the truth of the Gospel? We should be, because Jesus does the same for each one of us. He meets us in our sin, our shame and our brokenness and offers us a new life through Him. Do you remember who first shared Jesus’ with you? Then why aren’t you sharing it with others? It’s the greatest gift you can give them!

O apóstolo Paulo foi um incrível comunicador e missionário. Quando chegou a hora de partilhar o Evangelho de Jesus Cristo, ele viu muitos chegarem à fé. Para os Cristãos de hoje, podemos aprender muito com o exemplo de Paulo de como comunicar o Evangelho a pessoas que vêm de origens, experiências e até mesmo religiões muito diferentes.
Paulo era Judeu. Não apenas um "Judeu cultural", que celebrava as festas e aderia às tradições populares, mas um zeloso crente do Judaísmo antes do seu encontro radical com Cristo. Ao falar com os colegas Judeus, podes ter a certeza de que Paulo os entendia muito bem. Portanto, ao partilhar Cristo com amigos Judeus, Paulo seria sensível às suas preocupações e os encontraria onde estavam. Ao fazer isto, Paulo demonstrou como nós também podemos partilhar Cristo com pessoas religiosas: como um Muçulmano, um Budista, Hindu ou Mórmon. E como é que Paulo se ligou exactamente com pessoas cujas crenças eram tão diferentes das dele? Começou com respeito e um cuidado genuíno pelo outro.
Imagina que estás a discutir a fé com um amigo Muçulmano. Sabias que o Alcorão escreve de facto que Jesus foi um grande profeta nascido de uma virgem? Agora, obviamente, há uma diferença radical: no Islão, Jesus foi apenas um homem e um grande profeta, não Deus. No entanto, perguntando sobre o que o Corão diz sobre Jesus e ao respeitarmos o ponto de vista de um Muçulmano, podes ter uma conversa espiritual mais profunda. Podes até começar a estudar o que a Bíblia diz sobre Jesus com o teu amigo Muçulmano.
E aqui está a coisa mais linda: a verdade não é ameaçada por falsos ensinamentos. Não te deixes intimidar em discutir a fé com pessoas de outras religiões. Quando se trata do Evangelho de Jesus Cristo, ninguém deveria ficar fora da mesa.

The apostle Paul was an incredible communicator and missionary. When it came to sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ, he saw many come to faith. For Christians today, we can learn a lot from Paul’s example of how to communicate the Gospel to people coming from very different backgrounds, experiences, and even religions.
Paul was a Jew. Not just a "cultural Jew", celebrating the holidays and adhering to popular traditions, but a zealous believer in Judaism before his radical encounter with Christ. When speaking with fellow Jews, you can be sure that Paul understood them pretty well. So when sharing Christ with Jewish friends, Paul was going to be sensitive to their concerns and meet them where they were. In doing so, Paul demonstrated how we too can share Christ with religious people: like a Muslim, a Buddhist, Hindu or Mormon. And how exactly did Paul connect with people whose beliefs were so different from his? It began with respect and a genuine care for the other.
Imagine you’re discussing faith with a Muslim friend. Did you know that the Koran actually writes that Jesus was a great prophet born of a virgin? Now obviously there is a radical difference: in Islam, Jesus was only a man and a great prophet, not God. However, by asking what the Koran says about Jesus and by respecting a Muslim’s viewpoint, you might find yourself having a deeper spiritual conversation. You might even begin studying what the Bible says about Jesus with your Muslim friend.
And here’s the beautiful thing: truth is not threatened by false teaching. Don’t be intimidated to discuss faith with people from other religions. Trust the Word of God, trust the Gospel and trust God to reveal the truth. Because respect, genuine care and acceptance are the starting points to sharing the Gospel. When it comes to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, no one should be off the table.

É o grupo "religioso" que mais cresce no mundo Ocidental, são os 'NENHUNS' ou os indivíduos não religiosos. Em 2012, quase 20% dos Americanos identificavam-se como não tendo interesse religioso ou filiação. Com a geração dos millennials, aqueles nascidos depois de 1980, descobrimos que a percentagem aumenta para cerca de 30 a 40%. Este é um grupo muito grande de pessoas só na América, muito maior quando se pensa globalmente. Então, como é que iniciamos conversas de fé com este grupo em particular?
Começa com uma pergunta simples: Conta-me sobre o Deus em quem não acreditas, eu posso também não acreditar nele! O que eu quero dizer? Bem, quando te sentas e realmente discutes Deus com muitas pessoas não religiosas, descobres que a sua visão de Deus é completamente contrária ao que as Escrituras realmente ensinam. Muitas vezes concordo com o céptico, o agnóstico, até o ateu, porque o Deus em que eles não acreditam existe, e eu não acredito em nenhum. Muitas vezes, a sua visão de Deus tornou-se tão distorcida que o Deus que descrevem não está nem perto do Deus que os Cristãos passaram a conhecer através da pessoa de Jesus Cristo. E isto aqui é um ponto de partida, é o começo de um diálogo espiritual.
Não importa com quem estamos a falar: Muçulmano, Budista ou Ateu, todas as conversas espirituais começam com o aceitar as pessoas onde elas estão, mesmo que os seus valores, crenças ou estilos de vida pareçam muito diferentes. Este é o ponto de vista de Paulo. Ele diz: "Eu não ignoro a lei de Cristo. Eu não comprometo o Evangelho ou os meus valores morais, mas estou a procurar encontrar um interesse comum (minha paráfrase)." Eventualmente, quando surgirem dúvidas sobre porque vivemos da maneira que o fazemos, podemos apontar para Jesus.
Afinal, Jesus deixou de lado o conforto do Céu para viver entre nós e morrer por nós para que pudéssemos ser salvos. Certamente podemos deixar de lado os nossos interesses para apontar um "NENHUM" para Cristo. Vais fazê-lo?

It’s the fastest growing "religious" group in the Western world it’s the ‘NONEs’ or the non-religious individuals. In 2012, almost 20% of Americans identified themselves as having no religious interest or affiliation. With millennials, those born after 1980, you’ll find that percentage increases to around 30-40%. That’s a very large group of people in America alone, much larger when thinking globally. So how do we initiate faith conversations with this particular group?
Start with a simple question: Tell me about the God you don’t believe in, I may not believe in him either! What do I mean? Well, when you sit down and actually discuss God with many non-religious people, you’ll discover that their view of God is completely contrary to what the Scriptures actually teach. Very often I agree with the skeptic, the agnostic, even the atheist, because the God they don’t believe exists, I don’t believe in either. Often, their view of God has become so distorted that the God they describe is nowhere close to the God that Christians have come to know through the person of Jesus Christ. And that right there is a starting point, it’s the beginnings of a spiritual discussion.
No matter who we are talking to: Muslim, Buddhist, or Atheist, all spiritual conversations begin with accepting people where they are, even if their values, beliefs, or lifestyles look very different. That’s Paul’s whole point. He’s saying, "I don’t ignore the law of Christ. I don’t compromise the Gospel or my moral values, but I AM seeking to find a common interest (my paraphrase)." Eventually, when questions come up about why we live the way we do, we can point to Jesus.
After all, Jesus put aside the comforts of Heaven to live among us and to die for us so that we might be saved. Certainly we can put aside our interests for the sake of pointing a "NONE" to Christ. Will you?

O que significa ser fraco? A fraqueza a que Paulo se refere é mais do que apenas uma fraqueza física, mas uma fraqueza moral e emocional. No texto de hoje, Paulo está a falar sobre as nossas lutas e a nossa vulnerabilidade.
A pior coisa que os Cristãos podem fazer é parecer como se fossem muito fortes. Mesmo o Cristão mais forte tem fraquezas e lutas. Talvez seja uma luta moral com luxúria ou pornografia; talvez seja uma luta emocional oprimida pelo medo, ansiedade ou depressão. Se formos honestos, todos lutamos de uma forma ou de outra.
Paulo está a dizer que, ao reconhecer as nossas fraquezas, podemos apontar para Deus como a fonte da nossa força. Esta vulnerabilidade remove qualquer critica que alguém possa sentir devido às suas próprias dificuldades. Em vez disso, estás a ir ao encontra delas onde estão, como igual, mesmo que as tuas áreas específicas de fraqueza sejam diferentes. É nestes momentos de verdadeira e honesta vulnerabilidade que proporcionam oportunidades para partilhar como a força de Deus nos ajudou a ultrapassá-las.
Todos lutamos; a única diferença é que um seguidor de Jesus pode apegar-se à força sobrenatural de Deus quando o fazemos. É um dom que vem ao darmos os nossos corações e vidas a Jesus. What does it mean to be weak? The weakness Paul is referring to is more than just a physical weakness, but a moral and emotional weakness. In today's text, Paul is talking about our struggles and our vulnerability.
The very worst thing Christians can do is to appear as though they’ve got it all together. Even the strongest Christian has weaknesses and struggles. Maybe it’s a moral struggle with lust or pornography; maybe it’s an emotional struggle overwhelmed by fear, anxiety or depression. If we’re honest, we all struggle in one way or another.
Paul is saying that by acknowledging our weaknesses, we can point to God as the source of our strength. This vulnerability removes any judgement someone might feel due to their own struggles. Instead you are meeting them where they are, as an equal, even if your particular areas of weakness differ. It’s in those moments of honest, real, vulnerability that provide opportunities to share how God’s strength got us through.
We all struggle; the only difference is that a follower of Jesus can cling to God’s supernatural strength when we do. It’s a gift that comes with giving our hearts and lives to Jesus. So when it comes to your weaknesses, will you be vulnerable enough to admit your struggles? Because it’s in our weakness that God’s strength shines. THAT is the message we want to share to those who are struggling: It’s not about me, but what God does though me.

Já ouviste o termo "amor ágape", mas não estás muito claro sobre o que isso significa?
Primeiro, vamos entender o que não é. Não é amor romântico, porque pessoas de todas as fés (e nenhuma fé) experimentam o amor romântico. Não é amor fraternal, onde tens uma química natural com outra pessoa. Terroristas e membros da máfia experimentam o amor fraternal. Certamente que não há nada exclusivamente Cristão nisso!
O amor ágape é amor incondicional. É uma escolha que fazemos de amar outra pessoa, quer nos ame de volta ou não. Isto significa que escolhes amar alguém mesmo que ele seja o teu inimigo! O amor ágape não se baseia na emoção. Na verdade, pode ser contrário a todas as nossas emoções. É um acto da vontade.
O amor ágape representa um verdadeiro desafio para nós, Cristãos. É difícil vivê-lo porque é difícil amar alguém que não nos responde da maneira que desejamos. E todos vamos ter certas pessoas, mesmo dentro do corpo de Cristo, que temos de esforçar-nos a amar. E, no entanto, a Palavra de Deus é muito clara: "Amados, vamos nos amar uns aos outros, pois o amor vem de Deus." Agora, não consegues encontrar uma ordem mais clara sobre o que somos chamados a fazer como seguidores de Jesus Cristo. Jesus "ágape ama-nos" e nos manda "ágape amar" os outros.
Bem simples quando olhas desta maneira, não é?

Ever heard the term "agape love", but you’re not really clear on what it means?
First, let’s understand what it is not. It is not romantic love, because people of all faiths (and no faith) experience romantic love. It is not brotherly love, where you have a natural chemistry with another person. Terrorists and members of the mafia experience brotherly love. There’s certainly nothing uniquely Christian about that!
Agape love is unconditional love. It is a choice we make to love another person whether they love us back or not. It means that you choose to love someone even if he is your enemy! Agape love is not based on emotion at all. In fact, it may be contrary to our every emotion. It is an act of the will.
Agape love presents a real challenge for us Christians. It is tough to live out because it’s hard to love someone who doesn’t respond to you in the way you would desire. And all of us are going to have certain individuals, even within the body of Christ, that we have to struggle to love. And yet, God’s Word is very clear: "Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God." Now, you couldn’t find a more clear command about what we’re called to do as followers of Jesus Christ. Jesus "agape loves" us and commands us to "agape love" others.
Pretty simple when you look at it that way, isn’t it?

Já percebeste que cada pessoa na terra tem valores? Agora, podem não ser BONS valores, mas, no entanto, são valores. Até a máfia e os traficantes de droga têm valores. Até Hitler tinha valores. A confusão sobre os valores surge porque o homem começa no lugar errado, consigo mesmo. Estamos cheios de uma cultura de muitas pessoas à procura de fazer o que é "certo aos seus próprios olhos" e isso tem levado ao caos, moralmente, espiritualmente, emocionalmente e relacionalmente. Peço-te que comeces com o mandamento número um de Deus: "Não terás outros deuses diante de Mim."
Alguns argumentam que o que é mais importante para ti é realmente o teu deus. Então, o que é mais importante para ti? É a família, o sucesso, dinheiro, poder, posses ou felicidade? Qual é o o teu valor mais importante? Quando é alguém ou algo além de Deus, é um "deus" (pequeno 'd') e a nossa orientação dos valores fica fora de sintonia.
Quando começamos do lugar errado, acabamos sempre perdidos e confusos, seguindo falsos 'deuses'. Deus diz: "Começa Comigo; Coloca-Me em primeiro lugar e todos os outros valores têm um jeito de se encaixar." É a chave para termos os valores correctos.

Did you realize that every single person on earth has values? Now, they may not be GOOD values, but values, nonetheless. Even the mafia and drug lords have values. Even Hitler had values. Confusion about values comes because man starts at the wrong place, with himself. We’re filled with a culture of many people that are seeking to do what is "right in their own eyes" and it’s led to chaos, morally, spiritually, emotionally and relationally. I urge you to start with God’s number one commandment, "You shall have no other gods before Me."
Some argue that what is most important to you is really your god. So, what’s most important to you? Is it family, success, money, power, possessions, or happiness? What is your most important value? When it’s anyone or anything besides God, it’s a "god" (little 'g') and our value orientation gets out of whack.
When we start from the wrong place, we always wind up lost and confused, following false 'gods'. God says, "Start with Me; put Me first and all other values have a way of falling into place." It’s the key to having the right values.

Jesus veio ao mundo porque nos ama; Ele veio para entregar a verdade a um mundo de crenças falsas... injustos, sim, mesmo aqueles que eram os Seus inimigos. Deus ama a todos nós, até mesmo ao mais vis dos ofensores. A Bíblia diz em Lucas 19:10 que "Jesus veio para buscar e salvar o que estava perdido." O Seu amor é para todas as pessoas, mesmo aquelas pessoas que muitos religiosos não querem estar por perto. Uma dessas pessoas era o seu discípulo Mateus.
Mateus era um dos últimos indivíduos que gostarias de ter na tua equipa se estivesses a tentar impressionar os bons religiosos. Ele era um bandido. Ele tinha más companhias. Mas depois que Jesus lhe estendeu a mão e pediu-lhe para se juntar à Sua equipa, Mateus ficou tão animado que deu uma festa para todos os seus notórios e rebeldes amigos, apenas para conhecer Jesus. Todos se divertiram muito e, mais tarde, depois de fazer de Jesus o seu Senhor, Mateus tornou-se um dos biógrafos de Jesus!
Ah, mas a multidão religiosa ficou chocada. Eles pensaram: "Se Jesus é suposto ser um homem de Deus, porque é que Ele iria andar com um grupo tão rude?"
Jesus respondeu: "Não são os saudáveis que precisam de um médico. Eu vim para aqueles que sabem que são pecadores e precisam de ajuda, não para aqueles que pensam que são justos."
Não é tão bom? Deus ama os pecadores, apesar da sua falta de amor por Ele. O amor de Deus é incondicional.

Jesus came to earth because He loves us; He came to deliver truth in a world of false beliefs... unrighteous, yes, even those who were His enemies. God loves us all, even the vilest of offenders. The Bible says in Luke 19:10 that "Jesus came to seek and to save that which was lost." His love is for all people, even those people many religious folks don’t want to be around. One of those people was His disciple Matthew.
Matthew was one of the last guys you’d want on your team if you were trying to impress good religious folks. He was a crook. He ran with a bad crowd. But after Jesus reached out to him and asked him to join His team, Matthew was so excited he threw a party for all his wild and notorious friends, just to meet Jesus. They all had a great time, and later, after he made Jesus his Lord, Matthew became one of Jesus’ biographers!
Oh, but the religious crowd was appalled. They thought, "If Jesus is supposed to be a man of God, why would He run with such a rough crowd?"
Jesus responded, "It’s not the healthy who need a doctor. I came for those who know they’re sinners and need help, not for those who think they’re righteous." Don’t you love it? God loves sinners in spite of their lack of love for Him. God’s love is unconditional.
